    Abstract:

    Decreasing revenues and increasing expenses has led many healthcare organizations to adopt newer technological applications in order to address the informational needs of their patients. One such adoption technique is to develop a more robust e-patient environment. Health care organizations may increase their effectiveness in meeting the needs of a growing e-patient population through the implementation of high-quality social networking applications such as Twitter. These applications may help to support and maintain a valuable and informed Community. A literature review identifies three characteristics that have an impact on information exchange inherent to social networks: number of members, contact frequency, and type of knowledge. Data from a case study of a juvenile diabetic using Twitter helps to demonstrate these aforementioned characteristics. A framework is developed that may be used by health care organizations to better align social network objectives with expectations of an End User Community (EUCY). Managerial implications of this study are discussed that can help information technology professionals as well as health administrators when implementing social networks.

    Abstract:

    This paper provides a framework for analysing and assessing financial data standards. We test the proposed framework by examining common financial data standards or contexts in use today — FIX, FpML, ISO 15022/20022, XBRL, and the US CFTC’s Swaps Data Repositories’ data. The empirical information for each standard was gathered by conducting what we believe to be the first 360-degree survey of all the stakeholders to each standard — ie their respective designers, regulators, data input personnel, and data End Users. This approach led us to the discovery of a new construct for evaluating existing and making recommEndations for future financial standards; we characterise this construct as stakeholder harmony vs stakeholder dissonance. Our findings indicate that extreme instances of dissonance exist not only between types of stakeholders, but among the same category of stakeholder. From these survey data, we also designed a new empirical score of standard quality, and note that the ISO standards outperform the other standards, per our measure, with XBRL achieving the next highest score. We conclude with detailed list of practical recommEndations which are organised to reflect the structure of the framework and stakeholder survey; they build on the theme of identifying and preventing stakeholder dissonance. Some key recommEndations include: keep a full representation of all types of stakeholders at the design and implementation table; start small and with actual use cases provided by the End Users of the data; use formal design and maintenance tools wherever possible; make the technical specification as invisible as possible; and listen to contrarian voices, especially if coming from the End User Community.

    Objective: The NIH Toolbox is intEnded to be responsive to the needs of investigators evaluating neurologic and behavioral function in diverse settings. Early phases of the project involved gathering information and input from potential End Users. Methods: Information was collected through literature and instrument database reviews, requests for information, consensus meetings, and expert interviews and integrated into the NIH Toolbox development process in an iterative manner. Results: Criteria for instrument inclusion, subdomains to be assessed, and preferences regarding instrument cost and length were obtained. Existing measures suitable for inclusion in the NIH Toolbox and areas requiring new measure development were identified. Conclusion: The NIH Toolbox was developed with explicit input from potential End Users regarding many of its key features.

    Abstract:

    This article reports on a 2018 survey of bibliometric and altmetric practitioners-'Three things you want your metrics supplier to know'-that was undertaken to better understand the practitioners' usage of existing tools and services and to invite them to suggest ways in which they would like to see these improve. In total, 149 suggestions were made by 42 respondents, mainly UK librarians. Responses could be categorized into four main themes: A) Improve and share your data; B) Be more responsible; C) Improve your tools; D) Improve your indicators. The findings of the survey are discussed and sample comments shared. Based on these findings, and expanding on the four themes, the article makes a number of practical recommEndations to metrics suppliers for ways in which their services could better serve the need of the Community for robust and responsible bibliometric and altmetric evaluation.
