Endometrial stromal sarcoma presented as Endometrial Polyp: a rare case

We report a case of low-grade Endometrial stromal sarcoma in a 39-year-old woman, whose ultrasound examination suggested a large Endometrial Polyp. Polypectomy followed by laparoscopic total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was performed. The final histological examination showed no residual disease, implying that the tumor was totally resected during hysteroscopy. This case report highlights that Endometrial stromal sarcoma is to be included in the differential diagnosis of Endometrial Polyp though rare.

Endometrial Polyp secondary to tamoxifen therapy
Fertility and Sterility, 2003Co-Authors: Rudi Ansbacher, Arnold P AdvinculaAbstract:A 66-year old G-4, P-1, Ab-3, on cyclical hormone therapy (HT), underwent a right breast lumpectomy and node dissection. Pathology of the specimens revealed stage II, grade I ductile carcinoma with 1/18 nodes positive. She was treated with chemotherapy, radiation, and started on tamoxifen at a dose of 20 mg per day. Initial vaginal ultrasound showed a 2-mm Endometrial stripe (Fig. 1A). On follow-up 11 months later, vaginal ultrasound revealed a 9-mm Endometrial strip with an air–fluid pocket (marked by a “ ”o n Fig. 1B) superior to the fundal portion of the Polyp (designated by the arrow). An office Endometrial biopsy could not be performed due to severe cervical stenosis. Hysteroscopy demonstrated a 3.2 0.9 cm Endometrial Polyp (Fig. 2). The Polyp was removed in toto, and pathology confirmed that it was benign.

lobular carcinoma metastasis to Endometrial Polyp unrelated to tamoxifen report of a case and review of the literature

Such cases have mostly been reported in tamoxifen-related Polyps. We report a case of lobular carcinoma with metastasis to an Endometrial Polyp in a patient with no history of tamoxifen therapy. The histological features of the Polyp in our case closely mimicked those of tamoxifen-related Polyps, emphasizing the fact that although characteristic-these features are not specific for tamoxifen. This case also reiterates the need for careful evaluation of Endometrial Polyps, since inconspicuous deposits of lobular carcinoma can easily be missed.
