Environmental Transport in wetland channel with rectangular cross-section: Analytical solution by Chatwin’s asymptotic expansion

By extending a previous study, the spatial concentration distribution of solute Transport due to an instantaneous Environmental emission in a wetland channel with rectangular cross-section is presented in this work by means of Chatwin’s long-time asymptotic technique. To account for the effect of high order moment, skewness of the transverse mean concentration distribution is analyzed. Two important parameters, i.e., aspect ratio (depth to width) and damping factor, on the dispersion process are discussed. Four studied cases illustrated that the transverse concentration distribution is nonuniform even at large time and the aspect ratio can affect the transverse concentration distribution greatly. The cross-sectional mean concentration distribution is asymmetrical in the initial stage and shows an asymptotic Gaussian distribution at large time. The dispersion process in a thick (width equals depth) wetland channel is quicker than that in a thin wetland channel. The spatial concentration distribution is dominated by the lateral-sidewall-effect on a large time scale for Environmental Transport in a thin wetland channel.

Notes on modelling of Environmental Transport in wetland

Zeng, Guoqian ChenAbstract:Abstract This paper presents an effort towards a basic model for Environmental Transport of momentum, heat and mass transfer in the wetland. To smear out the discontinuity between the two phases of water and solid in the wetland, the continuum models distinctively applying for the water body and solid frame are transformed via the technique of phase average to give equations for a virtual single-phase flow in the entire domain of the wetland. Then to filter out the vortex and fluctuation common in the wetland flow, the operation of large eddy simulation (LES) is applied to yield a basic model for practical simulation. With reference to the modelling of flows in porous media and turbulent flows, closure relations are presented for the correlation terms due to the phase average and large eddy simulation.

We review these and provide a broader, more encompassing perspective on Environmental policy focused on Transport, and taking into account bounded rationality as well as social preferences.

Radiocesium discharges and subsequent Environmental Transport at the major US weapons production facilities.

SchreckhiseAbstract:Radiocesium is one of the more prevalent radionuclides in the environment as a result of weapons production-related atomic projects in the USA and the former Soviet Union. Radiocesium discharges during the 1950s account for a large fraction of the historical releases from US weapons production facilities. Releases of radiocesium to terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems during the early years of nuclear weapons production provided the opportunity to conduct multidisciplinary studies on the Transport mechanisms of this potentially hazardous radionuclide. The major US Department of Energy facilities (Oak Ridge Reservation in Tennessee, Hanford Site near Richland, Washington, and Savannah River Site near Aiken, South Carolina, USA) are located in regions of the country that have different geographical characteristics. The facility siting provided diverse backgrounds for the development of an understanding of Environmental factors contributing to the fate and Transport of radiocesium. In this paper, we summarize the significant Environmental releases of radiocesium in the early years of weapons production and then discuss the historically significant Transport mechanisms for 137Cs at the three facilities that were part of the US nuclear weapons complex.
