  • Cost-effectiveness of recycling and recirculation of natural and energy resources based on the Equality Principle

    Abstract:

    A cost structure is proposed for optimizing the recirculation and recycling of commodities and energy usage considering regional, national and global operating scales. The methodology proposed involves business administration theory and economics and employs the previously introduced Equality Principle and the model for efficient use of resources for optimal production economy (EUROPE) to impose shadow costs on unwanted material wastes and energy residuals that produce economic incentives to reduce such wastes at the source. A case study presents the practical application of the proposed theory in a national and a global context. It is concluded that the presented methodology is useful for increasing the cost-effectiveness and optimizing recirculation and recycling in the usage of energy resources and natural resources in general. Profitability increases, technology is advanced and environmental conditions improve simultaneously through the application of the EUROPE model to analyze government policy related to the recirculation and recycling of solid wastes and energy. Furthermore, the equity of the distribution of such recirculation and recycling facilities is improved. The developed methods are useful information support tools for decision-making in the management of energy and other natural resources with emphasis on the economics of recirculated and recycled residuals.

    This paper presents a general approach when performing urban mining activities. The urban mining concept is a necessity when the Mega cities increase in numbers to create attractive, sustainable cities for modern people. There are veins of precious minerals that are richer than any goldmine, running through our cities. The Equality Principle is applied on urban mining in order to simultaneously optimize the economy, the technology used and the environmental conditions in general. Shadow costs are employed to give economic incentives to improve the current urban mining activities. A versatile key factor is introduced that provides management with a tool to immediately obtain a general status report of their urban mining project. A Swedish office block is the object of a case study. Thereby, special focus is on the least important fractions with a positive value from an economic point of view that are intended to be optimized. The introduced approach shows utility and the model for Efficient Use of Resources for Optimal Production Economy (EUROPE) gives reasonable results when applying the Equality Principle on urban mining business. The major benefit with this study is the introduction of a novel method to improve urban mining projects of all kinds featuring conversion of all technical and environmental aspects of a project into all-embracing monetary measures. It is recommended to apply the Equality Principle and its mathematical expression, the EUROPE model, on recycling activities in general and particularly on urban mining projects.

    A cost structure is proposed for improving and measuring the efficiency of the money transferring systems based on the optimization of unwanted transaction fees on a local, national and global scale. The methodology proposed involves business administration and economics theory and employs the previously introduced Equality Principle and the Efficient Use of Resources for Optimal Production Economy (EUROPE) model. A shift of paradigms is introduced as regards money transferring consisting of the transfer fees in question being regarded as a sort of products that strictly mathematically are treated as the ordinary money flows. The proposed model is generally applicable in the private, corporate and banking capital transfer context. A case study in practice shows the adequacy of the proposed theory by employing fictive but representative figures. It is concluded that the presented methodology is useful for increasing and studying the cost-effectiveness of mainly the occurring fees connected to capital transfer in general. The equity of the distribution of such facilities is improved on all administrative scales. A proposed key figure enables management to immediately obtain an overall comprehension of the economic performance of their capital flow situation that continuously can be reviewed, monitored and evaluated.

    Abstract This paper shows how the Equality Principle can be applied to traditional mining activities as a theoretical economic basis for “environmentally friendly” waste management of natural resources. A cost structure is proposed to generally improve the exploitation of the natural resources and save energy due to the promotion of corporate economic incentives to a more cost-effective waste management related to these resources. The methodology proposed is based on the cost-benefit analysis concept. It employs the previously introduced Equality Principle and the model for Efficient Use of Resources for Optimal Production Economy (EUROPE) featuring shadow prices so as to optimize the mining slope and the ore-concentration when utilizing the resources of the rock and provide management with a one digit indicator of the performance of a certain mining activity to get in just once glance an instant comprehension of their mine's overall performance. This approach simultaneously improves the profitability, the technology used and the environment. A case study presents the practical application of the proposed theory on a Swedish copper mine. It is concluded that the presented methodology improves the exploitation of natural resources in mainly technological, economical and environmental terms.
