Accountability‐based order fulfillment process reengineering towards supply chain management: A case study at a semiconductor Equipment Manufacturer

JiaoAbstract:Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to provide a methodology to industry and academia on how to reengineer the order fulfillment process (OFP) by capitalizing on integration and coordination across the entire supply chain to sustain supply chain management.Design/methodology/approach – A case study at a semiconductor Equipment Manufacturer in Singapore is undertaken.Findings – This paper confirms that the traditional OFPs present companies a challenge to satisfy the demanding customer requirements while achieving performance optimization of each supply chain partner; and it is imperative to reengineer the OFPs to stay competitive. An integrated fuzzy approach for prioritizing supply chain complexity drivers of an Indian mining Equipment Manufacturer

Harsh KumarAbstract:The complexities in present day supply chain are numerous and are evolving due to globalization, customisation, innovation, flexibility, sustainability and uncertainties. The growing supply chain complexity results in negative consequences on cost, customer service and reputation. Managing supply chain complexity without compromising the profitability is a challenging task. Supply chain complexity (SCC) management involves identifying, prioritizing, measuring, analysing and controlling/eliminating the drivers of complexity. The SCC drivers denote number and variety of suppliers, customers, products, processes and uncertainties which are highly interdependent. Firms need to prioritize the drivers in order to manage and simplify SCC. Models and methods to prioritize the complexity drivers considering their interdependence are limited in literature. Prioritizing the complexity drivers requires a subjective approach and it is a multi criteria decision making (MCDM) problem. In this research, at first a fuzzy ISM (Fuzzy Interpretive Structural Modelling) is used to establish the interdependence of SCC drivers. A fuzzy AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) and fuzzy PROMETHEE (Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluation) are then used to quantify and prioritize the complexity drivers considering the strength of interdependence obtained using the fuzzy ISM. A case example of a mining Equipment Manufacturer located in India is presented to illustrate the proposed approach. From the results it is identified that unreliability of suppliers, forecast inaccuracy, lack of visibility /information sharing and number/variety of processes are the significant drivers.

This means attention for such aspects as strategy, costs, short and long-term, awareness, products, processes and innovations from an environmental perspective. Furthermore, both approaches are compared and discussed in the scope of realization of a sustainable supply chain.

Such a concept should be made specific, measurable, applicable, consistent and traceable (SMACT). In this scope, the use of an environmental management system (EMS) is discussed and the concept of environmental performance is determined by research in a printed circuit board production facility. Environmental performance is determined using seven environmental indicators relating to material use, use of aiding compounds, water use, energy use, emissions, waste and packing material. Environmental performance can be embedded in the facility's EMS from a continual improvement perspective, and in the supply line from a benchmarking principle.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate OEM–supplier integration in a new product development (NPD) project to prepare for production ramp-up.,The results presented in this paper are based on a real-time, longitudinal study of a single collaborative NPD project in the mechanical engineering industry. The NPD project involves seven suppliers and it is carried out in a large Swedish company (the OEM) and fits the theory-elaborating approach of this research.,This study argues that the aspect of timing in OEM–supplier integration, the OEM’s research and development (R&D) attitude toward collaboration and the OEM’s (R&D) operating procedure are challenges affecting the preparation for production ramp-up. The following three mechanisms to facilitate OEM–supplier integration in order to prepare for production ramp-up are also discussed: the mediator’s role, the OEM’s face-to-face meeting at the project level and suppliers’ formal face-to-face meetings with the OEM and internally.,This paper elaborates on and extends prior research on production ramp-up by conducting an empirical analysis that incorporates supplier integration in NPD. It bridges the gap between the literature on production ramp-up and on supplier integration in NPD and clearly indicates that supplier integration is an important prerequisite for successful production ramp-up.
