Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Techniques for Solving the Airport Ground Handling Service Equipment Vendor Selection Problem

Previous research has seldom integrated multi-criteria decision-making techniques with goal programming to solve the AGHSEVS problem. This paper describes a new system evaluation model for AGHSEVS by considering both qualitative and quantitative methods. We compare the fuzzy TOPSIS method based on fuzzy weighted average left and right score methods with multi-choice and multi-aspiration goal programming approach of an AGHS company in Taiwan. These study results can help airport ground handling service company managers make optimal decisions for AGHSEVS problems. We hope the practicability of the comparable model with slight modifications of real situation data can be used in other AGHS companies.

How Vertical Project Team Integration Between End User, End User’s Engineer, Nuclear QA, and Equipment Vendor Provided for Minimized Cost and Installation Expense

These ideas are generally not synonymous with cost effectiveness. Often it is very beneficial that the engineering phase for this Equipment be flexible such that the needs of the end user, engineer, and Equipment Vendor are met in a cooperative fashion.The recent power uprate scope of supply at NextEra Energies Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant was modified about 36 weeks before the outage start date to include large replacement condensate coolers for each unit with the Unit 2 exchanger delivery being critical. This left a small window in which to generate a specification, purchase, and produce the first of two 14,500 ft2 heat exchangers. The project had many design challenges that needed to be addressed including the installation, size limitations, nozzle locations, nuclear plant quality requirements and consideration of lake/sea grass (string from algae) fouling, zebra/quagga mussel fouling, and alewife (small fish) pluggage concerns in order to bring the project to a successful conclusion. These issues needed the combined strengths of the Engineer, End User, and Fabricator working quickly and making timely decisions to bring the total project to the most cost effective and successful conclusion.Copyright © 2012 by ASME

Performance Characteristics of an Operational WiMAX Network
IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, 2011Co-Authors: James Westall, Jim MartinAbstract:The term WiMAX is used to refer to a collection of standards, products, and service offerings derived from the IEEE 802.16 family of standards for wireless networks. These standards define physical and MAC layer elements that ensure interoperability of compatible Equipment. However, the standards leave both the details of the packet scheduling algorithms and the values of performance related configuration parameters to the discretion of the Equipment Vendor or network operator. These algorithms and parameters ultimately determine fundamental performance characteristics such as round-trip latency and sustainable throughput on the network. In this paper, we examine performance characteristics of an operational WiMAX testbed upon which we were able to conduct controlled experiments in the absence of competing traffic. We characterize latency, throughput, protocol overhead, and the impact of WiMAX on TCP dynamics. We show that scheduling policies and parameter values impact actual performance in ways that are not possible to characterize in generic studies of WiMAX.
