  • ICME - Temporal Error Concealment for video transmission
2004 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME) (IEEE Cat. No.04TH8763), 1
    Co-Authors: Tak-song Chong, Wing-san Chau, Tai-wai Chan
    Abstract:

In this paper, we propose a temporal Error Concealment algorithm for video transmission in an Error-prone environment. The Error Concealment algorithm employed an edge detection algorithm and progressive median motion vector Concealment. First, the edges are detected and concealed portion by portion. Then, the corrupted MB is partitioned by the reconstructed edges and each partition is concealed by progressive median motion vector individually. The proposed algorithm shows better performance on both objective and subjective quality over the existing temporal Error Concealment algorithm

  • VCIP - Error Concealment based on overlapping
Visual Communications and Image Processing 2002, 2002
    Co-Authors: Tien-ying Kuo, Shun-chih Tsao
    Abstract:

In this paper we proposed a temporal Error Concealment scheme utilizing the overlapping approach for the block-based video coder. In the proposed algorithm, each pixel of the lost block is recovered by overlapping from four nearest available neighboring blocks. The weighting coefficients used for overlapping have been carefully designed to address the suitable weights on different pixel locations inside the lost block. The weighted extended boundary match is proposed to replace the popularly used boundary match for recovering the lost motion vectors, such that the recovered motion vector can provide the best lost pixel prediction for the overlapping Error Concealment process. The experimental results were shown by integrating our algorithm into the H.263+ coder.

  • ICME - Hybrid temporal-spatial Error Concealment technique for video communications
2004 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME) (IEEE Cat. No.04TH8763), 1
    Co-Authors: Tien-ying Kuo
    Abstract:

This work proposes a hybrid temporal and spatial Error Concealment technique. We first present, in the temporal domain, an improved boundary match algorithm to recover lost motion vectors, and it preserves better edge continuity on the boundary of the recovered block. In our spatial Error Concealment, we reduce the high computational complexity of the method of the weighted Markov random field (MRF) to make it feasible in real applications. Finally we hybridize our temporal and spatial Error Concealments together. The hybrid criterion is based on the motion fields of the damaged frame and the similarities of two contiguous frames. Experimental results show that our proposed hybrid Error Concealment algorithm can provide good recovery of missing blocks.

  • Spatial-Temporal Error Concealment Scheme for Intra-coded Frames
2011 International Conference on Multimedia and Signal Processing, 2011
    Co-Authors: Huang Hui
    Abstract:

Error Concealment with good restored video quality and low computational cost is significantly required for video streams transmitted in Error-prone channels, especially for real-time applications. An efficient Error Concealment scheme for intra-frame is proposed. Spatial circular interpolation method is used to prevent the accumulation of prediction Error. Meanwhile the motion vectors surrounding the damaged MB are used when all the adjacent blocks are Error to improve the effect of Error Concealment. The experimental results indicate that compared to the spatial Error Concealment algorithm in H.264, the proposed scheme can restore more texture information and improve the quality both subjectively and objectively greatly.

  • ICME - Improving temporal Error Concealment by GRNN in video communication
2011 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo, 2011
    Co-Authors: Jun-horng Chen, Shih-chun Shao, Wen-hui Chen
    Abstract:

This work aims to improve the temporal Error Concealment for the corrupted macroblocks whose motions are not locally-smooth. It is demonstrated that the recovered quality by the oft-used motion estimation approaches is not visually satisfied for those MBs of which adjacent MBs do not have a consistent movement. Therefore, this work will propose and demonstrate that, if the conventional Error Concealment approach is followed by the nonparametric regression approach GRNN, the concealed quality will be raised. The simulation results will show the proposed approach indeed improves the performance of Error Concealment and the improving gain is about 1 dB of PSNR.
