The Genetic Improvement Program of the Agricultural Development Institute aims to improve productivity, increase cattle population and insert small beef producers in the livestock market. In this context, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the reproductive efficiency of a fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) protocol applied to a beef herd of small producers of the Province of Melipilla. The FTAI-protocol consisted in the i.m. injection of 2 mg of Estradiol benzoate and the application of an Intravaginal Bovine Device (DIB, 0.5 gr of progesterone) at day 0. At day 8 the DIB was removed and i.m. injections of 1 mg of Estradiol Cipionate and 500 μg of sodium cloprostenol were administered. FTAI was performed 52 to 56 hours after DIB removal. Pregnancy diagnosis was performed by trans-rectal ultrasonography at day 50 after FTAI. The overall pregnancy rate for the FTAI-protocol was 54%. Cows with body condition score (BCS) > 3 (scale 1 to 5) at the beginning of the FTAI-protocol had higher probability of pregnancy (OR=3.52) compared to cows with BCS 6 years had higher probability of pregnancy (OR=2.49) compared to cows 3 at the beginning of the FTAI-protocol may increase the probability of pregnancy in beef herds owned by small producers of the Province of Melipilla, Chile

No experimento I (exp. No exp. II as 155 vacas do exp. No exp. A análise estatística do exp. II e III no PROC LOGISTIC do SAS...The aim of this study was to evaluate the calving date effect on body condition score (BCS) at the beginning of breeding season and on the response to a two timed artificial insemination (TAI) protocols in first-calf beef heifers. In experiment I (exp. I) was evaluated the BCS change pre and post-partum. Eighty seven Nelore heifers and 68 u blood Red Angus were inseminated to calve from September to December. The BCS were monthly measured from June to February, during the pre and post-partum of these animals. In exp. II, the cows from exp. I were TAI when they were between 29 and 129 days post-partum (DPP) with the protocol: calf removal (CR) for 48 h before the first GnRH (100 mcg, Fertagyl®, INTERVET) and an insertion of an intravaginal progesterone device (1.9 g, CIDR®, Pfizer). After 6,5 days a new CR was performed, the CIDR® was removed and was injected prostaglandin F2? (PGF2?) (25 mg, Lutalyse®, Pfizer). Between 42 and 46 h after PGF2? was injected a new GnRH and cows were TAI. In exp. III, 538 primiparous cows from two herds (60 Nelore and 123 u blood Red Angus from farm 1 and 355 Nelore from farm 2), between 33 and 104 DPP were synchronized with the protocol: day 0, insertion of a CIDR® and a injection of 2.0 mg of Estradiol benzoate (Estrogin®, Farmavet), on day 7 was injected PgF2? (12.5 mg, Lutalyse®, Pfizer), in the CIDR® withdraw (Day 9) was injected Estradiol Cipionate (0.5 mg, E.C.P.®, Pfizer) and a CR was done, the TAI was preformed 46 to 52 hours after the device withdraw. In the TAI moment and 48 hours later a ultrasound scan (Aloka SSD-500, 5.0 MHz) was performed to determine the ovulation rate (except in the farm 2 of exp. 3). The pregnancy diagnosis was made by ultrasound 28 days after the TAI. The statistic analysis in exp. I was performed with PROC MIXED and in exp.II and III with PROC LOGISTIC from SAS... Use of human chorionic gonadodrophin and Estradiol Cipionate plus controlled internal drug release for synchronization of ovulation in Saanen goats
Saanen nuliparous female goats were distributed in two experimental groups of eight animals each to synchronize the ovulation. on day zero, all animals were treated with controlled internal drug release (CIDR-G®), dinoprost (5mg) and Estradiol Cipionate (EC; 1mg). on day 4, all animals were treated with eCG (250IU), and on day 5 the CIDR-G® was removed. Group 1 (T1) received 1mg of EC and Group 2 (T2) received 250IU of hCG, 24 and 30 hours after CIDR-G® removal, respectively. Onset of estrus was observed in 7 and 8 goats of T1 and T2 groups, respectively. hCG treated goats remained in estrus for 42±6.9 hours, whereas EC-treated goats remained in estrus for 45±5.5 hours (P>0.05). None of the studied ovulatory characteristics were affected by treatments. The intervals between CIDR-G® removal and ovulation in T1 and T2 groups were similar. Both hCG and EC were equally efficient on inducing ovulation synchronically
