Facial Nerve canal and its relationship with adjacent structures on hrct
Chinese Archives of Otolaryngology-head and Neck Surgery, 2012Co-Authors: Chen XiaobaiAbstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate high resolution CT(HRCT) findings of intratemporal Facial Nerve canal and its relationship with adjacent structures, and to evaluate their clinical significance.METHODS CT images were performed in 118 patients without abnormality of temporal bone. All original images were transferred to workstation for image processing.Facial Nerve canal and its relationship with adjacent structures were measured.RESULTS The minimal distance between the mastoid segment and posterior wall of the external canal, promontorium tympani, oval window were (4.23±0.73) mm,(4.3210.57) mm,and(3.21±0.31) mm respectively.Distance between short limb of incus and pyramidal segment of Facial Nerve was (3.32±0.37) mm.Width of Facial recess was(5.12±0.31) mm.Distance between the tympanic segment and promontorium tympani, oval window were(2.23±0.18) mm and(2.28±0.48) mm.CONCLUSION HRCT is a good method to study the anatomy of Facial Nerve canal and its relationship with adjacent structures, and may provide reliable information for the diagnosis of Facial Nerve Disease and surgery.

peripheral Facial paralysis as presenting symptom of covid 19 in a pregnant woman
Case Reports, 2020Co-Authors: Rita Figueiredo, Vera Falcao, Maria Joao Pinto, Carla RamalhoAbstract:Acute Facial Nerve Disease leading to peripheral Facial paralysis is commonly associated with viral infections. COVID-19 may be a potential cause of peripheral Facial paralysis and neurological symptoms could be the first and only manifestation of the Disease. We report a case of a term pregnancy diagnosed with COVID-19 after presenting with isolated peripheral Facial palsy.
