  • the new eu ukraine enhanced agreement versus the eu ukraine partnership and cooperation agreement transitional path or Final Destination
    Social Science Research Network, 2009
    Co-Authors: Roman Petrov
    Abstract:

Ukraine is awaiting a new enhanced agreement with the EU. Formal negotiations started in 2007 and are expected to be completed in one or two years. The future Enhanced Agreement between the EU and Ukraine is of significant importance for both parties. As a result, its scope and objectives have become one of the most hotly debated topics among academics and practitioners in the field of EU external relations law. This is because the agreement will be the first among a new generation of external agreements to be negotiated by the EU and third countries under the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP). Consequently, it will, to a certain extent, serve as a template and a point of reference for other future enhanced agreements to be concluded between the EU and other neighbouring countries which participate in the ENP.

  • the dynamics of neuronal migration
Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology, 2014
Co-Authors: Jing Liu, Ai Fang, Ye Bai, Arnold R Kriegstein, Xiaoqun Wang
    Abstract:

Proper lamination of the cerebral cortex is precisely orchestrated, especially when neurons migrate from their place of birth to their Final Destination. The consequences of failure or delay in neuronal migration cause a wide range of disorders, such as lissencephaly, schizophrenia, autism and mental retardation. Neuronal migration is a dynamic process, which requires dynamic remodeling of the cytoskeleton. In this context microtubules and microtubule-related proteins have been suggested to play important roles in the regulation of neuronal migration. Here, we will review the dynamic aspects of neuronal migration and brain development, describe the molecular and cellular mechanisms of neuronal migration and elaborate on neuronal migration diseases.

  • protein translocation through the sec61 secy channel
    Bioscience Reports, 2010
    Co-Authors: Zhiliang Cheng
    Abstract:

Special codes are embedded in the primary sequence of newly synthesized proteins to determine their Final Destination. Protein translocation across biological membranes requires co-operation between the targeting and translocation machineries. A conserved membrane channel, the Sec61/SecY complex, mediates protein translocation across or integration into the endoplasmic reticulum membrane in eukaryotes and the plasma membrane in prokaryotes. A combination of recent biochemical and structural data provides novel insights into the mechanism of how the channel allows polypeptide movement into the exoplasmic space and the lipid bilayer.

  • directions in cell migration along the rostral migratory stream the pathway for migration in the brain
Current Topics in Developmental Biology, 2004
Co-Authors: Shin Ichi Murase, Alan F Horwitz
    Abstract:

Abstract The rostral migratory stream (RMS) is an extension of the subventricular zone (SVZ) that ends at the center of the olfactory bulb. In rodents, the SVZ and RMS contain the precursor cells for the olfactory interneurons. In development and throughout adult life, these neural precursors leave the SVZ, migrate tangentially along the RMS to the olfactory bulb, from where they then begin to migrate radially to their Final Destination and differentiate into mature neurons. Live imaging techniques have revealed the nature of RMS migrations at high spatial and temporal resolution. Through the use of genetic and other interventions, the molecular mechanisms controlling the migration are now beginning to emerge. Here we review the nature of the migrations and the putative molecular players.
