    A 15-year-old girl sustained a jelly Fish Sting to her left hand and subsequently developed acute vascular insuffi-ciency of the left index and middle fingers with a threat of distal gangrene. Jelly Fish venoms are complex mixtures of polypeptides and enzymes pathogenic to man by means of their anti-genic properties. Fatal reactions can be caused by hy-persensitivity of the toxins on the heart, respiratory center or kidneys. Local or generalized skin eruption, exagger-ated local oedema, local fat atrophy and pigmentary changes are also features of the jelly Fish Sting. A direct neurotoxic effect of the jelly Fish venom on big nerves as radial, median and ulnar nerve palsies has been reported by Peel.

    Abstract:

    Objective: To study the epidemiology of venomous Fish Sting injuries, management and clinical outcomes of injured patients reported to the Hong Kong Poison Information Centre (HKPIC). Methods: All venomous Fish Sting cases reported to HKPIC from July 2005 to June 2008 were retrieved from its database (DATOX) and the Hong Kong Hospital Authority (HA) Electronic Patient Record (ePR) computer system for analysis. Results: There were a total of 33 Fish Sting cases in this study. The average age of the patients was 43 years (range 20 to 84) and 24 patients were males. Most cases were injured by catFish (n=12), followed by stoneFish (n=7) and lionFish (n=4). Ten cases sustained Fish Sting injury whilst at work. Five patients developed Fish Sting complications including cellulitis, subacute tenosynovitis, abscess formation and foreign body retention. No mortality was recorded. Within 7 cases of stoneFish injury, 3 cases were classified as moderate effect outcome. Two patients received stoneFish antivenom and none developed anaphylaxis. Conclusion: The majority of marine envenomations did not result in significant morbidity and required only supportive management. However, stoneFish injuries might be associated with an increased risk of severe local symptoms which therefore required aggressive treatment including antivenom.

    Weever Fish ( Trachinus species) Stings are frequent summer accidents in the coastal towns of Italy. Patients usually present with intense pain in the affected part (usually the foot or, less frequently, the hand), followed within a few hours by spreading erythema and edema. Rarely, systemic symptoms occur, including hypotension and depressed respirations. Death is possible, but extremely rare. 1 Recently, we have noted Raynaud's phenomenon occurring some weeks after a weever Fish Sting. Report of a Case. A 47-year-old man who was swimming near the beach in August 1994, was stung on the fourth finger of the right hand by a weever Fish that was hidden under the sand. Following the Sting, the injured finger was immersed in ice water several times for a few minutes over a 2-hour period to relieve the intense pain.     Abstract:

    "Scorpion Fish" is a nickname given by Fishermen to members of the Trachinidae family as a result of their unusual Stinging mechanism. These Fish are found throughout the eastern Atlantic region from the North Sea through the Mediterranean and Black Seas and along the western coast of Northern and Central Africa. They are characterised by poisonous glands located at the base and sides of the spines of their anterior back fin and at the base of a spine located on the gill cover. Because of the unusual location of the glands, Fishermen handling these Fish frequently suffer local injuries. A case of necrosis of the tip of the middle finger after a "scorpion Fish" Sting is described.
