improvement of the image enlargement method based on the laplacian pyramid representation
IEEE-Eurasip Nonlinear Signal and Image Processing, 2005Co-Authors: A Watanabe, Akira TaguchiAbstract:Summary form only given. It is necessary to predict unknown higher-frequency components that are lost by sampling for enlarging digital images. Based on the Laplacian pyramid representation, the prediction of unknown higher-frequency components is equivalent to the prediction of a known higher-resolution Laplacian image. We have proposed the higher resolution method based on the Laplacian pyramid representation. However, the Laplacian pyramid representation was considered for image compression. Thus, we think that the bandwidth of the Gaussian Filter for image compression is not optimal for digital image enlargement. In this paper, we proposed a new enlargement method for digital images with the variable bandwidth of Gaussian Filter.

improvement of the image enlargement method based on the laplacian pyramid representation
Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2004Co-Authors: A Watanabe, Akira TaguchiAbstract:The Laplacian pyramid is the hierarchical expression. Based on Laplacian pyramid representation, the prediction of unknown higher-frequency components is equivalent to the prediction of an unknown high-resolution Laplacian image. Gaussian Filter is used for calculating of the Laplacian pyramid. And the band-width of the Gaussian Filter is optimal for image compression. However, we cannot assert the band-width is optimal for the image enlargement method. In this paper, we change the band-width of the Gaussian Filter in order to improve the performance of the enlargement method based on Laplacian pyramid representation. We show that the emphasis degree is changed by changing the band-width of the Gaussian Filter.

alternative framework of the Gaussian Filter for non linear systems with synchronously correlated noises
Iet Science Measurement & Technology, 2016Co-Authors: Xiujie Zhang, Shuo Wang, Shenmin SongAbstract:To conveniently deduce the Gaussian Filter (GF), it is based on the assumption that the process and measurement noises are independent. However, it does not always satisfy this assumption in practice. In this study, a novel framework of GF for non-linear system in which the process and measurement noises are correlated at the same time is proposed. The novel framework of GF takes the type of synchronous correlation into account. It is inspired by the fact that the probability of process noises conditioned on measurement noises has much more correlation information than its original probability in the situation of measurements data received, and exploits the conditional Gaussian distributions to improve the GF accuracy. In addition, the issue about multi-dimensional integrals in the implementation of novel framework of GF is solved by the spherical-radial cubature rule. The cubature Kalman Filter with synchronously correlated noises (CKF-SCN) is derived. The results of simulations on a non-linear example show better performance of the CKF-SCN in contrast to the extended Kalman Filter with correlation noises, the unscented Kalman Filter with correlation noises, the Gaussian approximation recursive Filter, and the standard cubature Kalman Filter.

an improved Gaussian Filter with asynchronously correlated noises
International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation, 2015Co-Authors: Xiujie Zhang, Shenmin Song, Shuo WangAbstract:In order to increase the accuracy of state estimation for a nonlinear discrete-time system with asynchronously correlated noises, an improved Gaussian Filter(GF) is proposed. Different from the traditional methods for this issue, which reconstruct process equation to make process noises and measurement noises uncorrelated, the novel algorithm of GF directly utilizes the correlation information to obtain more accurate estimation. And the computation of integrals with random variables, which is the core problem involved in the case of asynchronously correlated noises, it employs Stirling's interpolation to solve it. Furthermore, based on the novel GF framework, a new cubature Kalman Filter with asynchronously correlated noises(CKF-ACN) is developed by the rule of spherical-radial cubature. Simulation results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed CKF-ACN in contrast to the extended Kalman Filter with asynchronously correlated noises and the CKF.

quantitative evaluation of surface roughness for granular materials using Gaussian Filter method
Powder Technology, 2021Co-Authors: Masahide Otsubo, Reiko Kuwano, S NadimiAbstract:Abstract This contribution proposes a methodology to measure the surface roughness of granular materials using the Gaussian Filter. Artificially generated rough surfaces with known root mean square roughness (Sq) combined with the spherical shape are analysed to determine the optimum cut-off wavelength (σ∗) adopted in the Gaussian Filter. Considering a combined dependency of Sq and particle size (D) on σ∗, an empirical regression equation is derived to describe their relationship. The regression equation is further found to be applicable for granular materials including glass beads and natural sand grains with irregular base shapes. To implement the proposed Gaussian Filter method into practical use, a detailed guideline is given to determine Sq including the selection of representative measurement area. Finally, quantitative comparisons of Sq are made to distinguish the difference between the proposed method and motif method.

Gaussian Filter for nonlinear systems with correlated noises at the same epoch
Automatica, 2015Co-Authors: Yulong Huang, Xiaoxu Wang, Yonggang Zhang, Lin ZhaoAbstract:This paper proposes a general framework solution of Gaussian Filter (GF) for both linear and nonlinear dynamic systems with correlated noises at the same epoch. Detailed discussions and simulation comparisons with existing Gaussian approximation recursive Filter and existing de-correlating GF are provided, which show advantages of estimation accuracy of the proposed method in some applications.
