Genetic Variability of principal isoflavones in red clover

Total isoflavone concentrations can be 30 times that of soybean, indicating that red clover is a good source of nutraceutical and functional food ingredients. In this study, tissue samples of 13 red clover cultivars were taken at two growth stages (late-bud stage and late-flowering stage) to determine the concentration of individual isoflavones using HPLC. Individual isoflavone concentrations and total isoflavone concentration differed significantly according to red clover cultivar. We found significant Genetic Variability for total isoflavone concentration and individual isoflavone concentrations; these differences were not related to ploidy level (diploid vs. tetraploid). Broad-sense heritability (H = Genetic variance/total variance) ranged from 0 to 83% and was influenced by isoflavone type and sampling date. Genetic Variability in Guadalupe fur seals

Since then the protected population has been growing steadily around their only rookery, Isla de Guadalupe, Mexico. We probed both nuclear and mitochondrial genomes using multilocus nuclear DNA profiling and mitochondrial DNA sequencing to estimate the level of Genetic Variability of the present population. Unlike other pinniped populations that have experienced similar historical bottlenecks, such as Hawaiian monk seals and northern elephant seals, high levels of Genetic Variability were found.

Low Genetic Variability in the Highly Endangered Mediterranean Monk Seal

Allen, William Amos, Alex AguilarAbstract:Genetic Variability is an important component in the ability of populations to adapt in the face of environmental change. Here we report the first description of nuclear Genetic Variability in the only remaining sizable colony of the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus), located at Cap Blanc (Western Sahara, Mauritania), whose estimated size during the study period (1994-May 1997) was about 320 individuals. We tested 42 microsatellite loci isolated from five pinniped species in a sample of 52 pups. Three loci failed to give any product, and of the remaining 39, only 15 were polymorphic, with a maximum of 3 alleles detected. Three loci appeared to be X-linked. No departures from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium were detected and no Genetic structure was found between the two nursing caves currently occupied by the seals. Several analytical methods show that, as a consequence of a severe bottleneck, the population has suffered a decrease in Genetic Variability over the last few centuries.

Genetic Variability of hepatitis A virus.

HAV exploits all known mechanisms of Genetic variation to ensure survival, including mutation and Genetic recombination. HAV has been characterized by the emergence of different genotypes, three human antigenic variants and only one major serotype. This paper reviews the Genetic Variability and molecular epidemiology of HAV. Its evolutionary mechanisms are described with particular emphasis on Genetic recombination and HAV mutation rate. Genotypic classification methods are also discussed.
