    Abstract A new species of microgastrine wasp, Cotesia invirae Salgado-Neto & Whitfield, sp. nov., is described from southern Brazil in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul. This species is a koinobiont gregarious larval endoparasitoid and spins a common mass of cocoons underneath the host caterpillars of Opsiphanes invirae (Huebner, 1818) (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae), feeding on the palm trees Syagrus romanzoffianum (Cham.) Becc.; Livistona chinensis (N.J. Jacquim) R. Brown; Roystonea regia (HBK) O.F. Cook; Archontophoenix cunninghamiana Wendland & Drude (Palmaceae). Morphological, molecular, biological, ecological and Geographical Data are integrated to describe the new species.

    Abstract:

    A number of proposals for integrating Geographical (Geographical Information Systems-GIS) and multidimensional (Data warehouse-DW and online analytical processing-OLAP) processing are found in the Database literature. However, most of the current approaches do not take into account the use of a GDW (Geographical Data warehouse) metamodel or query language to make available the simultaneous specification of multidimensional and spatial operators. To address this, this paper discusses the UML class diagram of a GDW metamodel and proposes its formal specifications. We then present a formal metamodel for a Geographical Data cube and propose the Geographical Multidimensional Query Language (GeoMDQL) as well. GeoMDQL is based on well-known standards such as the MultiDimensional eXpressions (MDX) language and OGC simple features specification for SQL and has been specifically defined for spatial OLAP environments based on a GDW. We also present the GeoMDQL syntax and a discussion regarding the taxonomy of GeoMDQL query types. Additionally, aspects related to the GeoMDQL architecture implementation are described, along with a case study involving the Brazilian public healthcare system in order to illustrate the proposed query language.

Geographical Data Warehouses (GDW) are one of the main technologies used in decision-making processes and spatial analysis. For these, several conceptual and logical Data models have been proposed in the literature. However, little attention has been devoted to the study of how spatial Data redundancy affects query performance over GDW. In this paper, we investigate this issue. Firstly, we compare redundant and non-redundant GDW schemas and conclude that redundancy is related to high performance losses. Further, we analyze the indexing issue, aiming at improving query performance on a redundant GDW. Comparisons among the SB-index approach, the star-join aided by R-tree and the star-join aided by GiST showed that SB-index significantly improves the elapsed time on query processing from 25% up to 95%.

    Phylogeography is a field that focuses on the Geographical lineages of species such as vertebrates or viruses. Here, Geographical Data, such as location of a species or viral host is as important as the sequence information extracted from the species. Together, this information can help illustrate the migration of the species over time within a Geographical area, the impact of geography over the evolutionary history, or the expected population of the species within the area. Molecular sequence Data from NCBI, specifically GenBank, provide an abundance of available sequence Data for phylogeography. However, Geographical Data is inconsistently represented and sparse across GenBank entries. This can impede analysis and in situations where the Geographical information is inferred, and potentially lead to erroneous results. In this paper, we describe the current state of Geographical Data in GenBank, and illustrate how automated processing techniques such as named entity recognition, can enhance the Geographical Data available for phylogeographic studies.
