  • The relationship between the reference value of erythrocyte sedimentation rate and Geographical Factors.
    Bioscience Reports, 2001
    Co-Authors: Ge Miao
    Abstract:

In order to provide a scientific basis for a unified standard of the reference value of erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) in China, the reference value of healthy people's ESR has been collected. The relationship between the reference value of ESR and Geographical Factors is examined in this paper. Altitude is the most important factor affecting the reference value of ESR, which decreases with increasing altitude; the relationship is quite significant. The method of stepwise regression analysis was used to deduce two regression equations: Ŷ1=12.08-0.00222X1+0.00114X5 ± 2.95, Ŷ2=18.81-0.00323X1+0.239X4 ± 4.70. If the Geographical factor value of a particular area in China is known, the reference value of ESR of Chinese people can be calculated by means of the regression equations. Furthermore, the dependence on Geographical Factors in China can be classified as six districts: Qingzang, Southwest, Northwest, Southeast, North and Northeast.

  • The relationship between normal erythrocyte sedimentation rate of Chinese young people and Geographical Factors.
    Clinical Hemorheology and Microcirculation, 1999
Co-Authors: Ge Miao, Ren Zhiyuan, Guo Cailing, Ma Jinfu, Huang Ping
    Abstract:

: In order to provide a scientific basis for the layout of a unified standard of the reference value of Chinese young people's erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), the relationship between the reference values of the Chinese healthy young's ESR and five Geographical Factors was tested according to the Wintrobe methods. The altitude was found to be the most important factor affecting the reference value of the Chinese young's ESR. The altitude increase correlates with the decrease of the reference value of the young's ESR. The method of stepwise regression analysis was used to deduce two multivariate regression equations. If the Geographical index values of a particular area of China are known, the reference value of the young's ESR of this region can be calculated by means of the regression equations. Furthermore, the depending on Geographical Factors, China can be divided into six districts: Qingzang, Southwest, Northwest, Southeast, North and Northeast District, according to the reference values of the Chinese young's ESR.

  • Quantifying effects of environmental and Geographical Factors on patterns of genetic differentiation
    Molecular ecology, 2011
    Co-Authors: Cheng-ruei Lee, Thomas Mitchell-olds
    Abstract:

Elucidating the Factors influencing genetic differentiation is an important task in biology, and the relative contribution from natural selection and genetic drift has long been debated. In this study, we used a regression-based approach to simultaneously estimate the quantitative contributions of environmental adaptation and isolation by distance on genetic variation in Boechera stricta, a wild relative of Arabidopsis. Patterns of discrete and continuous genetic differentiation coexist within this species. For the discrete differentiation between two major genetic groups, environment has larger contribution than geography, and we also identified a significant environment-by-geography interaction effect. Elsewhere in the species range, we found a latitudinal cline of genetic variation reflecting only isolation by distance. To further confirm the effect of environmental selection on genetic divergence, we identified the specific environmental variables predicting local genotypes in allopatric and sympatric regions. Water availability was identified as the possible cause of differential local adaptation in both Geographical regions, confirming the role of environmental adaptation in driving and maintaining genetic differentiation between the two major genetic groups. In addition, the environment-by-geography interaction is further confirmed by the finding that water availability is represented by different environmental Factors in the allopatric and sympatric regions. In conclusion, this study shows that Geographical and environmental Factors together created stronger and more discrete genetic differentiation than isolation by distance alone, which only produced a gradual, clinal pattern of genetic variation. These findings emphasize the importance of environmental selection in shaping patterns of species-wide genetic variation in the natural environment.

  • genetic diversity analysis of agronomic traits and Geographical Factors correlation in the middle east barley population
    Acta Agriculturae Boreali-Occidentalis Sinica, 2012
    Co-Authors: L I Bianli
    Abstract:

Agronomic traits of 91 samples representing five populations of Hordeum spontaneum C.Koch and of 125 samples representing five populations of barley landrace from different areas of the Middle East were evaluated in this study. The results indicated that there was mighty significant difference between populations mainly in the traits of plant height, spike length, awn length, peduncle and extrusion, flag leaf width, flag leaf length and grains per spike, there was more significant difference intra-populations in the three of five areas, and with high genetic diversity totally.Regression analysis between agronomic traits and eco-Geographical environmental Factors showed that partly agronomic traits had a degree of relationship with eco-Geographical environmental Factors, mainly traits related of crop yield with temperature, rainfall and altitude etc, wild barleys had closer correlation with eco-Geographical environmental Factors than barley landraces.

  • temporal and spatial analysis of neural tube defects and detection of Geographical Factors in shanxi province china
    PLOS ONE, 2016
Co-Authors: Yilan Liao, Yan Zhang, Jinfeng Wang, Xin Liu, Ningxu Zhang
    Abstract:

Background Neural tube defects (NTDs) are congenital birth defects that occur in the central nervous system, and they have the highest incidence among all birth defects. Shanxi Province in China has the world’s highest rate of NTDs. Since the 1990s, China’s government has worked on many birth defect prevention programs to reduce the occurrence of NTDs, such as pregnancy planning, health education, genetic counseling, antenatal ultrasonography and serological screening. However, the rate of NTDs in Shanxi Province is still higher than the world’s average morbidity rate after intervention. In addition, Shanxi Province has abundant coal reserves, and is the largest coal production province in China. The objectives of this study are to determine the temporal and spatial variation of the NTD rate in rural areas of Shanxi Province, China, and identify Geographical environmental Factors that were associated with NTDs in the risk area. Methods In this study, Heshun County and Yuanping County in Shanxi Province, which have high incidence of NTDs, were selected as the study areas. Two paired sample T test was used to analyze the changes in the risk of NTDs from the time dimension. Ripley’s k function and spatial filtering were combined with geographic information system (GIS) software to study the changes in the risk of NTDs from the spatial dimension. In addition, Geographical detectors were used to identify the risk Geographical environmental Factors of NTDs in the study areas, especially the areas close to the coal sites and main roads. Results In both Heshun County and Yuanping County, the incidence of NTDs was significantly (P<0.05) reduced after intervention. The results from spatial analysis showed that significant spatial heterogeneity existed in both counties. NTD clusters were still identified in areas close to coal sites and main roads after interventions. This study also revealed that the elevation, fault and soil types always had a larger influence on the incidence of NTDs in our study areas. In addition, distance to the river was a risk factor of NTDs in areas close to the coal sites and main roads. Conclusion The existing interventions may have played an important role to reduce the incidence of NTDs. However, there is still spatial heterogeneity in both counties after using the traditional intervention methods. The government needs to take more measures to strengthen the environmental restoration to prevent the occurrence of NTDs, especially those areas close to coal sites and main roads. The outcome of this research provides an important theoretical basis and technical support for the government to prevent the occurrence of NTDs.
