Geochemistry Exploration and Geothermometry Application in the North Zone of Seulawah Agam, Aceh Besar District, Indonesia
Energies, 2019Co-Authors: Rinaldi Idroes, Muhammad Yusuf, Saiful Saiful, Muksin Alatas, Subhan Subhan, Andi Lala, Muslem Muslem, R Suhendra, G M Idroes, Marwan MarwanAbstract:A geochemistry study has been done in four Geothermal Manifestations—Ie-Seu’um, Ie-Brouk, Ie-Jue and the Van-Heutz crater—located in the north zone of Seulawah Agam mountain (Aceh Besar District, Indonesia). The study was performed through water and gas analysis. Water analysis were done for all Geothermal Manifestations, but gas analysis was only done for the Ie-Jue Manifestation that has fumaroles. Cation and anion contents were analyzed by ion chromatography, ICP-OES, alkalimetry titrations, and spectrophotometry, meanwhile isotopes were measured by a Liquid Water Isotope Analyzer. The resulting data were used for fluid and gas geothermometry calculations, and plotted in a FT-CO2 Cross-Plot and a CH4-CO2-H2S triangle diagram to obtain reservoir temperatures. The data were also plotted by a Cl-HCO3-SO4 triangle and Piper diagram to obtain the water type and dominant chemical composition, a Na-K-Mg triangle diagram to obtain fluid equilibria, the isotope ratio in the stable isotope plot to obtain the origin of water, and a N2-He-Ar triangle diagram to establish the origin of fumaroles. The water analysis results showed that (1) Ie-Seu’um has an average reservoir temperature of 241.9 ± 0.3 °C, a chloride water type, a dominant Na-K-Cl chemical composition, a mature water fluid equilibrium, and water of meteoric origin; (2) Ie-Brouk has an average reservoir temperature of 321.95 ± 13.4 °C, a bicarbonate water type, a dominant Na-Ca-HCO3chemical composition, an immature water fluid equilibrium, and water of meteoric origin; (3) Ie-Jue has an average reservoir temperature of 472.4 ± 91.4 °C, a sulphate water type, a dominant Ca-SO4 chemical composition, an immature water fluid equilibrium and water of meteoric origin; and (4) the Van-Heutz crater has an average reservoir temperature of 439.3 ± 95.3 °C, a sulphate water type, a dominant Ca-SO4 chemical composition, an immature water fluid equilibrium and water of magmatic origin. The results of our gas analysis showed that Ie-Jue has an average reservoir temperature of 258.85 °C, and water of meteoric origin. Based on the reservoir temperatures, the Geothermal Manifestation of the north zone of Seulawah Agam mountain is considered as a high-temperature Geothermal system suitable for power plant development.

Classification of self-potential anomalies on volcanoes and possible interpretations for their subsurface structure
Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, 2008Co-Authors: Koki AizawaAbstract:Abstract Self-potential (SP) surveys were conducted on 10 island-arc-type volcanoes in Japan. Large-scale SP anomalies that covered entire volcanic edifices and had simple shapes were observed. Neglecting the local fluctuations, we named the SP anomaly that shows voltage gradients anywhere on the flank a long spatial wavelength (LSW) SP anomaly. We first classified these anomalies into three types: 1) no anomaly (SP profile is flat): 2) “W”-shaped profile: and 3) “V”-shaped profile. In some volcanoes, one flank with a flat SP profile and another with half of the W-shaped SP profile coexist. Next, we compared LSW-SP anomalies with various factors that may be related to SP generation and found that the SP profile is approximately flat on the flank where Geothermal Manifestations exist. This relationship, which is new aspect of the SP data on volcanoes, is important because it can impose a constraint on the model for SP generation and the subsurface structure. Based on the discussion that SP is generated by an electrokinetic mechanism, we propose that resistivity, zeta potential, and hydraulic radius are the possible parameters that control the existence of LSW-SP anomalies. The new relationship between SP and Geothermal Manifestation are understood in terms of the presence of hydrothermal system. Although the structure of volcanic edifice is probably spatially complicated, the insight into the SP data presented in this study implies that the flanks with flat SP profiles are relatively weak and have high potential for sector collapse.

Subsurface Structure and Fluid Flow Analysis Using Geophysical Methods in the Geothermal Manifestation Area of Paguyangan, Brebes, Central Java
International Journal of Renewable Energy Development, 2016Co-Authors: Agus Setyawan, Agnis Triahadini, Yayan Yuliananto, Yoga Aribowo, Dian Agus WidiarsoAbstract:The indication of an active Geothermal system is shown by the presence of surface Manifestations such as the hot spring in Kedungoleng, Paguyangan, Brebes, Central Java. The temperature of the largest hot spring reaches 74 o C and there is an assumption that this is an outflow of Mount Slamet Geothermal system. DC-resistivity, Spontaneous Potential (SP) and Shallow Surface Temperature surveys were conducted to determine the subsurface structure as well as its correlation with the distribution of thermal fluid flow and shallow surface temperature. The subsurface resistivity has been investigated using 5 points of the Schlumberger configuration with 400 m separation for each point. For the fluid and temperature pattern, a measurement using 15 m interval in 3 lines of conducting fixed electrode configuration has been carried out, along with a 75 cm of depth of temperature measurement around the Manifestation area. The thermal fluid is assumed by the low resistivity of 0.756 to 6.91Ωm and this indicates sandstone that has permeable characteristic. The fluid flows in two layers of Sandstone at more than 10 meter from surface of the first layer. Accordingly, the SP values have a range between -11- 11 mV and a depth interval of 13.42- 28.75 m and the distribution of temperature is between 24 o -70 o C at a tilting range of 46.06 o -12.60 o . Hence it can be inferred that the thermal fluid moves in the Northwest direction and is controlled by a fault structure stretching from Northwest to Southeast. Study of Fluid Flow in Gedongsongo Temple Manifestation Geothermal based on the Data of Geophysics
Energy Procedia, 2014Co-Authors: Fuad Tarmidzi, Agus SetyawanAbstract:Abstract Research of several geophysics methods has been done i.eis geo-electric, Spontaneous-Potential (SP), and shallow temperature. This research aimed to make a model of fluid flow on Geothermal Manifestation in the Gedongsongo region. The data taking has done on December 2012. This geo-electric method shows that the depth of caprock layer is at the depth of 130 m from the surface. SP method shows the fluid flow turn to the South-East and thermoelectric effect is huge so that occurred convection- current in the region around fumarole. Shallow temperature method indicated that temperature distribution of 20 – 700C.
