Albrecht, "Rethinking Rural: Global Community and Economic Development in the Small Town West"
2016Co-Authors: Sandra MooreAbstract:In Rethinking Rural: Global Community and Economic Development in the Small Town West Don Albrecht, a rural sociologist and Director of the Western Rural Development Center at Utah State University, explores the historical and contemporary drivers of development and change in the rural West. He suggests that a new image of the rural West is emerging as the ecological, economic, and social impacts of Globalization alter rural landscapes and communities. Albrecht’s basic premise in this book is that new opportunities exist for rural West communities in today’s modern world if they are willing to embrace change, be innovative, capitalize on their assets, and develop their human capacity.

Women leaders and women managers in the Global Community
Career Development International, 1999Co-Authors: Karin KlenkeAbstract:While still rare, the number of women who have held or are holding the most senior positions of political leadership serving as either prime ministers or presidents of their countries has nevertheless risen steadily since 1960 when Sirimavo Bandaranaike of Sri Lanka took office. This paper profiles select number of female political leaders worldwide and examines relationship between leadership and management in the context of the Global Community. Women’s access to the highest political offices is used as a prism through which the continuing dilemma of women’s representation at the highest levels of public life is examined. The importance of the specificity of the socio‐historical and cultural contexts in leadership is emphasized.

The Role of Local Open Source Communities in the Development of Open Source Projects
2016Co-Authors: Sinan Abdulwahhab, Yazen Alabady, Yacoub Sattar, Imed HammoudaAbstract:This paper investigates the position of local open source communities (LOSCs) in the development of open source projects (OSPs). We have conducted an empirical study to examine the role of LOSCs, their way of working, and the benefits/challenges they experience compared to the overall Global Community. The qualitative investigation consisted of ten semi-structured interviews with members within different LOSCs. The results confirm the importance of LOSCs and the pivotal role they play in the development of OSPs. In many cases, they act as the middleman between individual members and the project’s Global Community. However, LOSCs have their own kinds of challenges.
