Magrath Stingers travelled to Standoff for the Kainai Young Bloods tournament. There was great enthusiasm, the announcer & great music made it fun for everyone. We lined up against Ft. Macleod for the 1st game. Hat tricks were the name of the game scored by: T. Hudson,D. Millward,C. Foggin, M. McCIennan & T. Evans. R. Barren helped keep the puck in our end & got some great passes. Robbie was close to getting a goal several times. D. Johnson contributed 2 goals on breakaways & can turn on the speed! A first time goal was scored by Carson Foggin!! In the last minute of play Magrath defense & the goalie were generous & allowed 2 goals by the Ft. Macleod team. Goal tending was an impromptu call for Cody F. without all the goalie gear. Goalie duties were shared & everyone did a great job! The "All Star" award went to Devon Millward. Final score 18-2. Sat. Feb. 6th: Up early, the game between Magrath & Cardston began at 8:30 AM! We had some stiff competition we had a "mish-mash" kind of offense going on. Goals: Matt M.l,Cody.F-l, T. Evans -1, D. Millward -1. C. McLaughlin played a tough face-off at center & got the puck to our team. T. Hudson got a hat trick & really hustled. Final score 9-7 for Cardston. Tyson Hudson received the game "All-Star". Back to Magrath, for a game with Coaldale. This game was full of passes & shots on goal. Final score 8-2 for Magrath!! Some incredible goals were scored in this game by Shane E. - 3, Tyson H. with a hat trick & one of them was a "one-timer" fired from D. Millward. Devon also contributed 1 goal to the cause. For his rookie year, Tyler H. has been a real asset to the team. & got some Good passes in. Cody F. got one goal as well. We saw some pretty Good stick handling going on . 4:00 p.m. We were all back to Standoff for the final game of the tourney. This match saw us play the Kainai team. Cody F. & D. Millward contributed 2 goals each, & it was nice to see two veterans pass to the rookies. Doran J., Chase H. & Matt. M. -1 each. Tyson H. & Shane E - 3 each! Cassidy H. played an awesome game & was awarded game"All- Star". A couple of close goals for Luke Rollingson & he .played a Good game. The weekend was a great opportunity for most of the team to take their turn in goal. We saw some innovative goal tending & sometimes the music was just TOO much & we did see some dancing going on, in the stands & on the ice! A Good time was had by all. WAY TO GO STINGERS!!!!! CALLING ALL FORMER BAND MEMBERS This means Anyone who was a member of the Magrath School Bands or anyone who played in a school band in another community How would you like to dust off your embrasure, and renew old memories? How would you like to play in a band again? THINK ABOUT IT! Wouldn't it be a great idea to put together a community band to perform during the centennial celebration in July? Now don't think of reasons why you CAN'T participate - think of reasons why you SHOULD. We could rehearse evenings in the band room with the doors locked (so no one can hear us until we are ready). I can supply music that is within the ability of anyone - even those who haven't played since school. We can even supply some instruments. Let's have a meeting to discuss it. Call all the old band members you know and talk to them about it. Call me and let me know of your support or fears/concerns. We can do this and it will be a blast! Watch for an announcement for a planning meeting in the near future. Gerry Chatwin ****** Allied Arts Council The Bowman Arts Centre is accepting proposals for exhibitions for 1999/2000. The man tried again and again, and the woman refused to let him up each time. Finally on his fifth try, the man said firmly, “You must let me up, madam. I’ve already gone 10 blocks past my home.” — Thomas LaMance Mr. Dean Stanley Wilde passed away January 26, 1999 at the age of 90 years. Audrey Gruninger Danny & Lori Degenstein Cam & Connie Gruninger Dan & Shelley McFadden. ****** The Magrath Stinger Tadpoles faced off against the Picture Butte Tadpoles. The Stingers were full of steam and the scoring spree started off with Chase Hofer & Devin Millward getting one goal each, they both got two goals each for the Stingers! Taylor Evans put the "wrap around" move on the other teams's goalie & came out the victor! Cody Foggin followed with one goal with an assist pass from Robbie Karren. Tyson Hudson played a great game with two goals both on fast paced breakaway. Carson Foggin played a tough face off center position and passed the puck to the team. Matt McClenan kept the puck out of our end and got the puck off to his teammates. Doran Johnson got a 1st time goal and brought the puck across the line and got his goal! Tyler Hansen passed and kept the other team on their toes. Some awesome goalie work by Taylor Evans and Nigel Atwood. One goal attempt by Picture Butte put Nigel on the run out of the crease & some pressure sent him scrambling back to the net to make the save! Nigel made the 11th goal and this ended the game 11-4. Citizens were presented with the information received from Canada Post. Basically the decision making is up to them and once the decision has been made, then the community will be called in to negotiate how postal service will run in this area. The decision has not as yet been made, and Town Officials are requesting that concerned citizens put pressure on Canada Postmake by making their thoughts known while there is still an opportunity to be heard. The ancestors you find are a part of who you are Jacquie Bly — Coordinator WHY WE NEED TO KEEP OUR POSTAL SERVICE 1- GROWTH: Magrath (Federal Census) is one of the fastest growing communities in Southern Alberta. 2- LOCATION: the Post Office is the center of the town; the center of a large rural area that includes three hamlets, six Hutterite colonies with 500 people sharing 6 boxes, and some of the largest farming and ranching operations in Canada. 3- ECONOMY: Magrath's scheme for economic growth through master plans and development strategies has our Post Office as a key player 4- SHIPPING: Grain shipments from Magrath Elevators have been the largest from any single point several times over the past years. 5- TRADE: Magrath is close to a year - round accessible Port of Entry with the U.S.; economists and trade experts are predicting a shifting of trade and commerce from an East / West direction to North / South; we will experience substantial increases in freight, travel, and postal traffic through this area. We will require postal services that are capable of expanding to meet the increased demands; retail postal services in the comer of a convenience store will not be able to cope. 6- HISTORY: In 1988 Canada Post went through this same process when Cal Alston retired as Postmaster and they ruled in favour of our Post Office. In the past five years our population and business activity have increased. SPORTS NOVICE HAWKS We played an exhibition game on Saturday, Feb.27th, 1993 against Lethbridge. Jim Balderson had the net minding duties for the first two periods and Chris Chatwin played goal for the last period. At the end of the first period we were trailing 3-0. We woke up a little in the second and scored two unanswered goals and left the ice trailing by a single goal 3-2. The third period, we played hockey! three more goals to Lethbridge's one. Final score 5-4 Hawks. Goal Getters: Jim Balderson 2; Chris Chatwin 1-1; Denver Wetherelt 1; Peter Lee 1-1; Assists: Janay Chipman 2; one each Kyle Harker, Cody Ririe, Eric Godionton. This weekend March 4-6, we will be at the Cardston Tournament FIRST GAME: Thursday Mar.4 7:30 p.m. against Cardston. We then play two games on Saturday: one at 9:30 am against Coaldale 2 and one at 3:30 against Vauxhall. If you want to see some exciting hockey, come and see us play. We would really like to see and HEAR you there. It's the end of our regular season and we placed 9th out of 15 teams. This puts us on the "B" side of the PLAYOFFS to be held March 11-13 in Raymond. Times will be announced at as later date. PEEWEE We played a not - so - organized Provincial game against Picture Butte on Feb. 24, 1993 here in Magrath. We lost by a score of 7-1. From the province Kwon Tung in China came twenty year old Mark Wong and his family, in 1951. They originally settled in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where other relatives had immigrated to a few years earlier.. May, lived in Assiniboine at that time. Introductions by a mutual friend brought the two together at a function in Moose Jaw. May's father purchased the restaurant here in Magrath from George Lee. When his partner decided to return to China, May's father invited Mark to purchase the partner's interest in the business. So, in September 1955, Mark became joint owner of the DELICIOUS CAFE. He and May were wed in 1956. A few years later they did extensive renovations to the restaurant. Panelling was put on the walls; a new ceiling installed; new flooring and new tables as well. Over the years the tables have been modified and the floor has been replaced several times. A family owned restaurant demands long hours of the proprietors. Today, when most people their age are retired, Mark and May still put in a 15 hour day 6:00am -9:00pm. Their only time off is when they take a few hours on Sunday for a pleasant drive. Any morning you will see the street in front of the cafe lined with trucks and a few cars as their regular clientele have them up early to serve breakfast; a ritual that has been going on for many years. When the weather is poor or the streets dangerous for walking, Mark is treated to taxi service by “one of the boys". Obviously they value his cooking! Sand is also provided around the cafe so if Mark and May go out, there will be little danger of them falling. Mark says, "After you've been in business for so many years you make alot of friends; fellows like Frank Hufnagel, John Brunner, Walter Niznikowski, and Garth Veale, the town foreman". Mark and May have four children bom and raised here in Magrath. Melvin, their oldest, after a stint in Ottawa of two years with the government , was transferred to Edmonton, where he still resides with his wife Carina and their three girls. Myrna married Craig Wilson, also a student from Magrath. After many years down east, they returned to Magrath for a short time(1990-91) before moving on to Logan Utah with their two children Justin and Meghan. Craig is a partner in a construction business. Susan attended Lethbridge Community College in the field of Business Management. She and her husband Brent Hatton now reside in Edmonton where she manages a Lady Foot Locker outlet. Lisa their youngest daughter attended the University of Lethbridge majoring in Business Management. She has just recently married Ken Thomson, a boy from Magrath and they have chosen to settle in Calgary. Both Mark and May enjoy their home and gardening, planting many vegetables specific to the Chinese cuisine ie. bok choy.. May enjoys knitting and reading and obtains literature in the Chinese language from Vancouver, which she enjoys very much. Mark is an undiscovered artist. For years he has done pencil sketches whenever he has a few moments to spare from the routine of restaurant work. He also has done a little work with specially designed brushes and black ink. One such picture he entered in the Magrath Fair in 1988, winning second prize. At their request, Mark's pictures grace the homes of his daughter, Melvin Bingham, Joe Wipf of Hutterville as well as the Butte Feeds Ltd. 1980 brought thoughts of retirement. Although several people have shown an interest in purchasing the restaurant, no one has yet made a firm offer.. How much longer they will work they are uncertain; and with their children gone the work load is entirely theirs. With the support of their faithful regular customers, they are almost certain to continue until their health no longer permits or until they meet a serious buyer. Come in and enjoy7 their hospitality. They'd be happy to serve you a full meal or a small treat such as ice cream or pop. CAR POOL Would you be interested in joining a Car Pool going into Lethbridge? We have room for 1 or 2 riders in the Car pool leaving Magrath between 6:30 and 6:45 a.m. going to Lethbridge; and then leaving Lethbridge at 4:30 p.m. or so to come home. • a myopic policy for optimal inspection scheduling for condition based maintenance
Reliability Engineering & System Safety, 2015
Co-Authors: Ji Ye Janet Lam, Dragan Banjevic
    Abstract:

Abstract In this paper, we propose a decision policy for condition-based maintenance that schedules inspections according to the current health of the system, optimized myopically over the next inspection interval. In traditional condition-based maintenance practices, regular inspections are considered a given requirement. Most measurements, however, confirm that the machine in question is in Good Working Order and that no maintenance is necessary. We consider the possibility that there are savings to be had in the number of inspections that are undertaken. As such, we use a proportional hazards model for risk of failure and a Markovian process to model the system covariates. The cost and time of inspections are incorporated into our model, and an optimal decision for one interval is made. This process can be repeated for each decision point, resulting in a decision policy that produces an inspect-or-replace result and an optimal time for the next inspection. Applied over the life of an asset, this policy can be used as a complete condition monitoring program supporting evidence based asset management.

  • The effect of the pump flow and machine age on the Good Working Order of the atomizer
University of Zagreb. Faculty of Agriculture. Department of Agricultural Engineering., 2019
    Co-Authors: Plukavec Jurica
    Abstract:

Atomizers are frequently used today; however, like any other pesticide-applying equipment, they must function properly so that pesticides can be applied correctly and precisely. When it comes to older machines, one might often encounter faulty devices. By testing various atomizer possibilities – where pump flow emerges as the most important – one would like to claim that the pump flow and the machine age might affect its Working quality. Some tests have been done in Slovenia in the Šentjur School Centre with 30 tractor-mounted atomizers. Various equipment was used, such as manometers, gauges, flow measuring devices, hoses etc. This was extremely helpful since exact results had been measured and analyzed. Testing was conducted on Agromehanika and Zupan devices. Agromehanika atomizers, while tested, used a BM 2 and a BM 65/30 pump, while Zupan atomizers had the BM 2 and AR 30 pumps. These thirty atomizers checked pump flows, machine age, its capacity as well as all other important qualities a properly Working device has. After these test, a conclusion was reached that old machines do not always affect the Working quality, under the condition that the machine is properly serviced. On the other hand, pump flow does influence the atomizer Working quality, because if the variance between the measured and the named pump flow is too big, exaggerated pesticide application occurs or plantations are not covered efficiently enough. Therefore, one can conclude that pump flow and machine age, as well as the Good Working Order, can significantly affect the expenses while using it

  • Innovative tester for underwater locator beacon used in flight/voyage recOrder (black box)
    'Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH', 2016
    Co-Authors: Pranjoto Hartono, . Sutoyo
    Abstract:

All commercial airplanes that carry more than 20 passengers and all sea merchant vessels with sizes above 3000 gross tonnage must be equipped with flight/ voyage data recOrders or more popularly known as black box. All black boxes aboard those vessels must be equipped with a completely independent ultrasonic sonar finder device called Underwater Locator Beacon (ULB). In case the device is immersed in water due to an accident, this device will emit ultrasonic signal at 37.5 kHz of a certain pattern for thirty days. The chance of finding the vessel (an airplane or a ship) sinking in the ocean is almost solely depend on the Working Order of this device. The voyage/ flight data recOrder performance must be tested every year per regulation of Air Transport Association/IATA (for airplanes) or International Maritime Organization/IMO (for sea vessels) under very stringent rules and regulations. For an airplane there are two data recOrders, which are the flight data recOrder (FDR) and cockpit audio voice recOrder (CAVR) and for a sea vessel there is Voyage Data RecOrder (VDR). During the annual performance test, the system will go very rigorous test in recording the data from all aspects of parameters in the sea vessels or the airplane for up to six hours. Unfortunately the ULB will only be tested – usually – by the technician for the voltage of the battery and also the expiration date of the battery only. The important part from the ULB – transmission of ultrasonic signal and pattern of the signal – is not addressed during the annual test, although this is one the most important factor in finding the vessel if she sinks in the deep ocean. The work presented here is about testing the ULB for its performance using simple system by the use of a microprocessor. The tester will check the voltage of the battery inside the ULB, the expected length of usage of the battery, the generation of the ultrasonic signal at 37.5 kHz, and also about the pattern of the signal. The device designed and built will be small and easy to use with Good visual and audio feedback to indicate the result of the UTB test. At the termination of this work, a Working system to test a ULB on the voltage and also detection of the ultrasonic signal has been built which is small and intelligent. The usage of the system is very simple, just by inserting the ULB into the system and pressing the unit for five seconds, a thorough result of the ULB test is presented on an LCD screen together with a blinking color light emitting diode (LED) and audible sound via buzzer to prove that the ULB under test is in Good Working Order
