  • Complementarities between organizational IT architecture and Governance Structure
    Information Systems Research, 2010
    Co-Authors: Amrit Tiwana, Benn Konsynski
    Abstract:

This study addresses the theoretically neglected interplay between organizational information technology (IT) architecture and IT Governance Structure in shaping IT alignment. We theoretically develop the idea that IT architecture modularity helps sustain IT alignment by increasing IT agility, and that decentralization of IT Governance strengthens this relationship. IT architecture therefore complements IT Governance Structure. Tests of the proposed mediated-moderation model using data from 223 organizations support these ideas. Implications for theory and practice are also discussed.

  • implementing an effective organization and Governance Structure for a radiology practice
Journal of The American College of Radiology, 2004
    Co-Authors: Lawrence R Muroff
    Abstract:

Radiology practices that are well organized and effectively governed have a competitive advantage. Decisions are made rapidly, actions are taken decisively and in accordance with established policy, and each group member has a responsibility for practice building. Such groups are perceived by their peers, hospital administration, and community business leaders to be both formidable and effective. This paper details the mechanisms that facilitate planning for and implementing an efficient practice organization and Governance Structure. The tasks of group leaders are defined, as are the committees necessary for appropriate action. The integral roles of a mission statement and a business plan are discussed. Practices adopting the suggested organizational Structure will be best positioned to survive in both good times and bad.

  • Transaction Costs and Organizational Competences: Explaining the Governance Structure for Manufacturing Stage
Journal of technology management & innovation, 2012
Co-Authors: Antonio Carlos Lima Nogueira, Walter Bataglia
    Abstract:

This article deals with the influence of transaction costs and organizational competences on the choice of Governance Structure for manufacturing stage in a productive system. The objective is to develop a conceptual model that explains the choice of supplier for manufacturing through transaction costs and organizational competences. Following earlier studies, the model proposes competences of the product´s owner influence the vertical scope in a relation moderated by transaction costs. The constructs in the model are: "Governance Structure", the dependent variable categorized as internal or external supplier, "transaction costs", measured by asset specificity of the product and bargain power of the firm in the manufacturing stage, and "competences on operations”, measured by experience and diversification of the firm. The study presents some methodological implications for applying the model in Brazilian pharmaceutical industry, through searching for secondary data on drugs and firms in a public database of the federal regulatory agency.

  • Governance Structure innovation and internationalization evidence from india
    Journal of International Management, 2013
Co-Authors: Deeksha Singh, Ajai S Gaur
    Abstract:

Abstract We examine the impact of firm-level Governance Structure on the innovation and internationalization strategies of emerging market firms. We propose that in the case of emerging market firms, Governance is a response to the prevailing institutional environment and affects the innovation and internationalization strategies of firms. Based on a longitudinal sample of 16,337 firm-year observations of Indian listed firms over a year time period from 2002 to 2009, we find a positive effect of family ownership and group affiliation on R&D intensity and new foreign investments. Institutional ownership also positively affects new foreign investments, but has no effect on R&D intensity. Further, we find that R&D intensity interacts with family ownership, institutional ownership and group affiliation in affecting new foreign investments.

We propose that in the case of emerging market firms, Governance is a response to the prevailing institutional environment and affects the innovation and internationalization strategies of firms. Based on a longitudinal sample of 16,337 firm-year observations of Indian listed firms over a nine-year time period from 2001-2009, we find a positive effect of family ownership and group affiliation on R&D intensity and new foreign investments. Institutional ownership also positively affects new foreign investments, but has no effect on R&D intensity. Further, we find that R&D intensity interacts with family ownership, institutional ownership and group affiliation in affecting new foreign investments.
