relationship between stress fractures of the proximal phalanx of the great toe and Hallux valgus
American Journal of Sports Medicine, 2004Co-Authors: Kiyoshi Yokoe, Yasushi KameyamaAbstract:PurposeTo clarify the relationship between stress fractures of the great toe and Hallux valgus.MethodsTen cases of this fracture were analyzed for their alignment of the great toe.ResultsNine of them had Hallux valgus.DiscussionThe continuous bowstring effect of the extensor Hallux longus and shearing stress on the Hallux valgus that occur during specific exercises such as sprinting, jumping, and standing on tiptoe, could cause these stress fractures.ConclusionThe Hallux valgus could play a role in the cause of stress fractures of the proximal phalanx of the great toe.

Relationship between Hallux rigidus, stress fracture and metatarsalgia: a case report
Foot and Ankle Surgery, 1997Co-Authors: J. Shah, H.p.j. WalshAbstract:Summary Hallux rigidus is a common problem. However, Hallux rigidus leading to stress fracture and lateral metatarsalgia is rare. This case study demonstrates the relationship between them. We propose that Hallux rigidus can lead to abnormal forefoot loading and subsequent stress fracture and metatarsalgia by altering the biomechanics of the foot.

The effectiveness of distal soft tissue procedures in Hallux valgus
Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, 2008Co-Authors: Cemil Kayalı, Haluk Agus, Taşkın Altay, Hasan Öztürk, Ozgur HancerliAbstract:Background Hallux valgus is a common disorder affecting mostly women population. Distal soft tissue procedure in the treatment of Hallux valgus is one of the main operative techniques described. The aim of this study is to evaluate the outcomes of McBride’s distal soft tissue procedure in Hallux valgus cases.
