    Abstract:

    The short message service (SMS), a bidirectional service for short alphanumeric (up to 160 bytes) messages, is a unique feature of GSM not found in older analog systems. Multireceiver short message traffic has increased amazingly over the years. We propose a multicast SMS architecture over our backbone network. Then, we demonstrate some approaches to maintain the SMS center location information consistent with the home location register and illustrate our scheme for mobile terminated short message transfer. Finally, we simulate and evaluate this architecture. Our simulation indicates that the proposed strong consistency approaches have optimal efficiency by adjusting parameters, and the proposed architecture efficiently provides self-routing capability and multicast functionality in our cellular backbone network. The study also provides a further insight on the issues of multicast wireless cellular backbone network and demonstrates a referable methodology to propose and analyze a multicast cellular backbone network, which can promote the technology of a personal communication network.

    Abstract:

In this paper, a dynamic visitor location register (VLR) based location management scheme is proposed for PCS networks. In this scheme, the current mobile switching center (MSC) gathers the information about the mobile terminals from the previous MSC of mobile terminal (MT), and performs the location registration. This proposed scheme decreases the traffic over the home location register (HLR) and it also reduces the location management cost.     location management is a fundamental issue of mobility management. It tracks the current location of mobile subscriber and delivers the incoming calls to them. In this paper we have proposed a modeling to estimate the location management cost, which is based on home location register cost, visitor location register cost, signalling cost, and paging cost. The proposed analytical model is helpful in describing the various parameters for overall location management cost. The numerical analysis has been carried out to explain the location management cost.

    In this paper, a pointer based HLR (home location register) scheme for location management in PCS (personal communication service) network is presented. The proposed scheme maintained cache information at each HLR database. Whenever the mobile terminal (MT) moves from old service area to new service area, its entry will enter in to the cache that is maintained by the old service area. This entry tells about information of MT, i.e., to which SA (service area) it has gone. An analytical model is developed for studying the performance of the proposed scheme.

    location management is one of the most important issues of mobile networking systems. Most current mobile systems employ a two-tier database structure to store mobile users' information. HLR (home location register) is used to retrieve user's information, and VLR (Visitor location register) is the temporal database for storing visitors' profiles. In the case when the number of users exceeds the capacity of the VLR due to mobility, database overflow occurs. To solve this problem, different replacement policies have been developed: random, most-idle, and inactive. In this paper, we propose a new policy, the least frequent replacement policy, which selects the least frequently accessed users as replacement candidates. Extensive simulation is carried out to predict the performance of the existing replacement policies and the proposed least frequent policy. Our simulation results show that the most idle and least frequent policies outperform the inactive and random replacement policies in most cases and the least frequent policy performs slightly better than the most idle replacement policy.

    In this paper, a dynamic HLR (home location register) scheme for location management in PCS (personal communications service) networks is presented. The proposed scheme provides a dynamic copy of mobile terminal location information in the nearest (current) HLR database. A modified table lookup procedure is also proposed for determining the current HLR easily. It allows the location registration and call delivery to be performed efficiently. An analytical model is developed for studying the performance of the proposed scheme. The performance study shows that the proposed scheme significantly reduces the system overhead for location management in PCS networks.

    Abstract:

    location management is a key issue in the operation of wireless networks. A lot of location management schemes have been proposed. The movement-based location management strategy is the one that is not only efficient but also easy to implement. However, when the number of roaming users increases, the access to the home location register (HLR) and the associated signaling cost may increase explosively under the movement-based strategy. In this paper, we introduce the concept of master HLR and current HLR. In our presented scheme, the mobile terminal (MT)'s HLR is changed dynamically and the MT will always be served by its nearest (current) HLR. A follow up simulation study shows the proposed scheme gives better performance than current movement-based schemes in term of location management cost.

    location management is a fundamental issue of the personal communication system. In this paper we have introduced a novel technique of location management. The proposed scheme is based on data replication from old home location register to current home location register of the mobile terminal. Here the current home location register replicate the data from old home location register then perform the location registration for mobile terminal. It has been observed that the proposed technique will reduced the location management cost and communication overheads in the network.

    The home location register (HLR) of WCDMA stores the subscription and location information of subscriber. It plays a very important role in the WCDMA mobility network. Once fault occur in any parts of mobility databases, the operator can not provide service to subscriber, and even all of the information of the subscriber will be lost in the worst case. So, the disaster recovery construction of mobility databases is one of the most important part of construction of WCDMA mobility databases. This paper surveys and analyzes the popular disaster recovery technique of HLR, and proposes the N+1 disaster recovery scheme. This scheme greatly handles the balance between cost and performance, and is fit for the disaster recovery construction of WCDMA mobility databases in the future.
