    Analysis of 519 obsidian artifacts (pebbles, debitage, cores and small bifaces) by nondestructive X-ray fluorescence from forests and steppes of southern Lanin National Park in the northern Patagonian Andean region, from Lacar (chemical group QU/AP), Lolog (CP-LL 1), Filo Hua-Hum (FHH), Paillakura (Pk, former unknown 1 group), Meliquina (MQ, former unknown group 2) and Yuco (YC) sources. Neutron activation analysis was applied to 29 of the artifacts. We identified for the first time the presence of obsidian from distant Covunco (PC1) in the center of Neuquen. This paper is the first English language publication of our ongoing, ten-year-long research. In accordance with previous work, but using other analytical techniques, the most frequently used sources during the late Holocene remain CP/LL 1 and Pk, here we add YC, mainly by the incorporation of new sites recently surveyed in the islands and the coast of Lake Lacar, next to its source. Another result consistent with previous work is the absence of obsidian from Mendoza and Chilean sources; therefore, we suggest these obsidians circulate just to the east and northeast, allowing us to discuss issues of Human Territoriality during the Late Holocene

    In the latter part of the 1960s, the ethologically derived idea of Territoriality as an explanation for Human aggression became widely debated among social scientists. The instinctual basis of Human territorial aggression was promoted by so-called popular ethologists and consequently embraced by lay audiences. The article examines how the emerging field of environmental psychology adopted the notion of Human Territoriality from ethology and made it into a part of their own research agenda. It shows how environmental psychologists were inspired by the fashion around the claimed relevance of Human Territoriality for the large-scale social problems, such as aggression, war and population growth. Despite of the obvious influences and comparisons between animal and Human behavior, many environmental psychologists wanted to contest not only the 'territorial aggression thesis' but also the relevance of animal studies for the analysis of Human behavior.

    Abstract:

    The challenge of making a virtual world believable includes a requirement for AI entities which autonomously react to a dynamic environment. After the breakthroughs in believability introduced by modern lightning and physics techniques, the focus is shifting to better AI behavior sophistication. Avatars and agents in a realistic virtual environment must exhibit a certain degree of presence and awareness of the surroundings, reacting consistently to unexpected contingencies and social situations. Unconscious reactions serve as evidence of life, and can also signal social availability and spatial awareness to others. These behaviors get lost when avatar motion requires explicit user control. This paper presents a new approach for generating believable social behavior in avatars. The focus is on Human territorial behaviors during social interactions, such as during conversations and gatherings. Driven by theories on Human Territoriality, we define a reactive framework which allows avatars group dynamics during social interaction. This approach gives us enough flexibility to model the territorial dynamics of social interactions as a set of social norms which constrain the avatar's reactivity by running a set of behaviors which blend together. The resulting social group behavior appears relatively robust, but perhaps more importantly, it starts to bring a new sense of relevance and continuity to virtual bodies that often get separated from the simulated social situation.
