2016 3rd International Conference on Advanced Computing and Communication Systems (ICACCS), 2016
    Co-Authors: K. Akila, S. Chitrakala, S Vaishnavi
    Abstract:

Both videos and images captured during various events play a vital role in information sharing amongst human race from olden days. The images and video captured under varied Conditions such as lighting, shading etc., are classified under two major categories viz., controlled and uncontrolled environment. The clarity factor of such multimedia data are affected by factors such as lighting, weather or the equipments used to capture etc., Among various factors, Illumination plays a major role in the clarity of videos and images. This paper attempts to enlist various Illumination of video / image pertaining to enhancement for various applications.

  • Robust real-time object tracking under varying Illumination Condition
2011 Annual IEEE India Conference, 2011
Co-Authors: Deepak Kumar Panda, Sukadev Meher
    Abstract:

An object tracking is simply a problem of finding the different positions of the object in each frame of a video. A novel method is proposed here for extracting target objects from real time video and then tracking them under varying Illumination Condition. It operates on video imagery taken from multiple video cameras. Each camera is connected to an infrared sensor and is distributed around the site to get the complete picture of the suspicious activities of intruders. By using an array of infrared sensors, each video camera is made event-driven. Thus a camera starts recording only after being triggered with the output of nearby infrared sensor. Thus it becomes a compressed sensing system. Our proposed method uses homomorphic filtering to overcome varying Illumination Condition. The Illumination component of an image has slow spatial variations. Homomorphic filter is employed to reject very low frequency components that usually represent Illumination variation.

  • Robust real-time object tracking under background clutter
2011 International Conference on Image Information Processing, 2011
Co-Authors: Deepak Kumar Panda, Sukadev Meher
    Abstract:

In this paper we propose a novel method for detecting target object in presence of background clutter such as leaves of trees and changing Illumination Condition in real-time video and then tracking the object. A small movement in the background such as leaves of trees and changing Illumination Condition affects the performance of the automated tracking system. Here in this paper, we reduce the spatial and intensity resolution of an image to minimize the effects caused by the background clutter. A 3-frame-differencing method is employed to detect a moving object. Fuzzy c-means clustering is used to segment the moving object from the background. The proposed method yields superior performance as compared to the other existing methods.

  • Recursive Copy and Paste GAN: Face Hallucination from Shaded Thumbnails.
IEEE transactions on pattern analysis and machine intelligence, 2021
Co-Authors: Yang Zhang, Ivor Tsang, Yawei Luo
    Abstract:

Existing face hallucination methods based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have achieved impressive performance on low-resolution (LR) faces in a normal Illumination Condition. However, their performance degrades dramatically when LR faces are captured in non-uniform Illumination Conditions. This paper proposes a Recursive Copy and Paste Generative Adversarial Network (Re-CPGAN) to recover authentic high-resolution (HR) face images while compensating for non-uniform Illumination. To this end, we develop two key components in our Re-CPGAN: internal and recursive external Copy and Paste networks (CPnets). Our internal CPnet exploits facial self-similarity information residing in the input image to enhance facial details; while our recursive external CPnet leverages an external guided face for Illumination compensation. Specifically, our recursive external CPnet stacks multiple external Copy and Paste (EX-CP) units in a compact model to learn normal Illumination and enhance facial details recursively. By doing so, our method offsets Illumination and upsamples facial details progressively in a coarse-to-fine fashion, thus alleviating the ambiguity of correspondences between LR inputs and external guided inputs. Furthermore, a new Illumination compensation loss is developed to capture Illumination from the external guided face image effectively. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves authentic HR images in a uniform Illumination Condition with a 16x magnification factor and outperforms state-of-the-art methods qualitatively and quantitatively.
