the hri human robot interaction and human resource development hrd encounter
International Journal of Educational Research, 2013Co-Authors: Renato Ferreira Leitao Azevedo, Cristiano E R Reis, Edgard B CornacchioneAbstract:This paper focuses on connecting Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) studies and technology to the field of Human Resource Development (HRD). Over centuries, with the Industrial development ideas on efficiency in controlling processes were deployed in complex terms to create our current conceptions of robots. Industrial Manufacturing has changed dramatically, to highly efficient supply chains with new technology and value added to products, in jobs that an average worker would not be capable of doing with his bare hands. Overall, technology and studies on automation have been developed including robotics. The ideas of robots living with humans and the exponential development of new technologies, singularity and affordance theories regain more and more space. When seen through the lens of technology, few resources are truly scarce; they are mainly inaccessible for a certain period.

toward industry 4 0 components insights into and implementation of asset administration shells
IEEE Industrial Electronics Magazine, 2019Co-Authors: Seung Ho HongAbstract:Diverse customer demands are increasing the need for improved flexibility, adaptability, and transparency of production processes; traditional Manufacturing systems must change. To meet these requirements, cyberphysical system (CPS) technologies are being increasingly applied in Industrial Manufacturing, equipping production facilities with autonomous adaptation capabilities. This is achieved by incorporating physical objects and their virtual representations and enabling bidirectional information exchange between them.

ieee access special section editorial data driven monitoring fault diagnosis and control of cyber physical systems
IEEE Access, 2020Co-Authors: Okyay Kaynak, Hamid Reza KarimiAbstract:It is well known that cyber-physical systems (CPSs) commonly exist in both Industrial Manufacturing and people’s daily lives. As a hot topic within Industry 4.0, CPSs have attracted interest from both academia and industry. Typical examples of CPSs include autonomous vehicles, smart grid, process control systems, and Industrial robotics systems. The traditional techniques are mainly focused on either the physical object or the abstract data model individually. A simultaneous consideration of both domains is needed.

sampled data control of network systems in Industrial Manufacturing
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2018Co-Authors: Yuanqing Wu, Hamid Reza Karimi, Renquan LuAbstract:In this paper, intelligent devices in Industrial Manufacturing are modeled as the nodes in the network systems. The sampled-data control is adopted to guarantee the synchronization of the network systems. The proposed sampled-data control strategy can reduce the updating frequency of the controller and the network communication burden. The closed-loop system is equivalently rewritten as the feedback interaction of a linear time-invariant system and a time-delay operator. The small gain theorem is utilized to calculate the upper bound of the sampling intervals. Furthermore, the integral quadratic constraints can provide the passivity-type property of the operator and give less-conservative results. Moreover, in order to further use the information about the sampling pattern and sawtooth structure, the time-delay integral operator is replaced by sample-data integral operator, and less-conservative results are proposed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed sampled-data distributed control strategy is demonstrated by a numerical example.

network slicing in industry 4 0 applications abstraction methods and end to end analysis
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, 2018Co-Authors: Anders E Kalor, Rene Guillaume, Jimmy Jessen Nielsen, Andreas Mueller, Petar PopovskiAbstract:Industry 4.0 introduces modern communication and computation technologies such as cloud computing and Internet of Things to Industrial Manufacturing systems. As a result, many devices, machines, and applications will rely on connectivity, while having different requirements to the network, ranging from high reliability and low latency to high data rates. Furthermore, these Industrial networks will be highly heterogeneous, as they will feature a number of diverse communication technologies. Current technologies are not well suited for this scenario, which requires that the network is managed at an abstraction level, which is decoupled from the underlying technologies. In this paper, we consider network slicing as a mechanism to handle these challenges. We present methods for slicing deterministic and packet-switched Industrial communication protocols, which simplify the manageability of heterogeneous networks with various application requirements. Furthermore, we show how to use network calculus to assess the end-to-end properties of the network slices.

innovative system for real time ergonomic feedback in Industrial Manufacturing
Applied Ergonomics, 2013Co-Authors: Nicolas Vignais, Markus Miezal, Gabriele Bleser, Katharina Mura, Dominic Gorecky, Frederic MarinAbstract:This work presents a system that permits a real-time ergonomic assessment of manual tasks in an Industrial environment. First, a biomechanical model of the upper body has been developed by using inertial sensors placed at different locations on the upper body. Based on this model, a computerized RULA ergonomic assessment was implemented to permit a global risk assessment of musculoskeletal disorders in real-time. Furthermore, local scores were calculated per segment, e.g. the neck region, and gave information on the local risks for musculoskeletal disorders. Visual information was fed back to the user by using a see-through head mounted display. Additional visual highlighting and auditory warnings were provided when some predefined thresholds were exceeded. In a user study (N = 12 participants) a group with the RULA feedback was compared to a control group. Results demonstrate that the real-time ergonomic feedback significantly decreased the outcome of both globally as well as locally hazardous RULA values that are associated with increased risk for musculoskeletal disorders. Task execution time did not differ between groups. The real-time ergonomic tool introduced in this study has the potential to considerably reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders in Industrial settings. Implications for ergonomics in Manufacturing and user feedback modalities are further discussed.
