    Security consoles are among the most widely deployed tools for Information security management in today's organizations. This article summarizes the work of our research team, in order to incorporate several enhancements to the OSSIM Information security console. Such enhancements include integration with physical security control devices, automatic creation of correlation directives for OSSIM's correlation engine, and a significant improvement in Information Capture reliability on high-traffic networks. © 2009 IEEE

    La consola de seguridad es una de las herramientas más usadas para la gestión de la seguridad informática en las organizaciones. Este artículo resume el trabajo efectuado por el equipo de investigación para integrar una serie de mejoras a la consola de seguridad informática OSSIM, con el fin de cubrir las necesidades del entorno colombiano. Dichas mejoras incluyen la interconexión con dispositivos de seguridad física, la implementación de un módulo de creación automática de directivas de correlación para el motor de la herramienta, y la mejora significativa de la confiabilidad de captura de información en redes con alto tráfico.     Abstract:

    The design and characterization of an imaging system is presented for depth Information Capture of arbitrary three-dimensional (3-D) objects. The core of the system is an array of 32 /spl times/ 32 rangefinding pixels that independently measure the time-of-flight of a ray of light as it is reflected back from the objects in a scene. A single cone of pulsed laser light illuminates the scene, thus no complex mechanical scanning or expensive optical equipment are needed. Millimetric depth accuracies can be reached thanks to the rangefinder's optical detectors that enable picosecond time discrimination. The detectors, based on a single photon avalanche diode operating in Geiger mode, utilize avalanche multiplication to enhance light detection. On-pixel high-speed electrical amplification can therefore be eliminated, thus greatly simplifying the array and potentially reducing its power dissipation. Optical power requirements on the light source can also be significantly relaxed, due to the array's sensitivity to single photon events. A number of standard performance measurements, conducted on the imager, are discussed in the paper. The 3-D imaging system was also tested on real 3-D subjects, including human facial models, demonstrating the suitability of the approach.

    Abstract:

    There are no provisions in administrative law for regulating the flow of Information coming into or leaving the system, or for ensuring that regulatory participants can keep up with a rising tide of issues, details, and technicalities. Indeed, a number of doctrinal refinements, originally intended to ensure that executive branch decisions are made in the sunlight, inadvertently create incentives for participants to overwhelm the administrative system with complex Information, causing much of the decisionmaking processes to remain, for all practical purposes, in the dark. As these agency decisions become increasingly obscure to all but the most well-informed insiders, administrative accountability is undermined as entire sectors of affected parties find they can no longer afford to participate in this expensive system. Pluralistic oversight, productive judicial review, and opportunities for intelligent agency decisionmaking are all put under significant strain in a system that refuses to manage - and indeed tends to encourage - excessive Information. This Article first discusses how parties can Capture the regulatory process using Information that allows them to control or at least dominate regulatory outcomes (the Information Capture phenomenon). Evidence is then offered to show how this uncontrolled and excessive Information is taking a toll on the basic objectives of administrative governance. The article closes with a series of unconventional but relatively straightforward reforms that offer some hope of bringing Information Capture under control.
