    Abstract:

    Recently, despite huge incentives and subsequent increases in investment in customer relationship Management Technology, many firms have not been able to increase their customer satisfaction index ratings. The purpose of this paper is to gauge whether IT Management practices differ among firms where IT has a major role in transforming marketing, operations, or both, which give the firms advantage by affecting their customer service. Several research hypotheses are tested using data obtained from a survey of 213 IT-leaders in the financial services industry. The results clearly indicate that the IT-leader firms have a higher level of IT Management sophistication and a higher role for their IT-leaders compared to IT-enabled customer focus, IT-enabled operations focus, and IT-laggard firms. This paper concludes with the implications for both researchers and practitioners.

    Abstract:

    The Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) used Information Technology (IT) extensively to create a high-tech port that has become the busiest port in the world. Now corporatised as a commercial port operator, PSA Corporation Ltd employs four key Management success factors in managing IT to meet the demands and challenges facing port operators. They are: (1) having a business-driven IT investment; (2) aligning business and IT plans; (3) maintaining a flexible and extensible IT infrastructure; and (4) encouraging IT innovation and creativity. These Management success factors are discussed and examples are given to illustrate how they help PSA more effectively leverage IT to streamline operations and sustain its competitive advantage.

    The New Zealand Computer Crime and Security Survey is conducted by the Security Research Group (SRG) of the University of Otago, in partnership with the Computer Security Institute (CSI), New Zealand’s Centre for Critical Infrastructure Protection (CCIP), and the New Zealand Police. This 2005 survey is the inaugural annual survey and is based on the CSI/FBI Computer Crime and Security Survey. The CSI/FBI Survey is the longest running continuous survey in the Information security field and commonly known as a leading source of statistics related to computer crime and security. The 2005 survey results are based on the responses of 218 computer security practitioners in New Zealand (NZ) manufacturing, governmental, financial and medical organisations, and tertiary education providers regarding the 2004 calendar year. All monetary figures are in NZ$, roughly equivalent to US$0.5. Four questions in the 2005 survey address issues considered in a previous 2004 SRG survey, allowing some discussion of trends. Most, however, have not been addressed in New Zealand before so trend analysis awaits subsequent survey results.     The New Zealand Computer Crime and Security Survey is conducted by the Security Research Group (SRG) of the University of Otago, in partnership with the Government Communications Security Bureau, Centre for Critical Infrastructure Protection (CCIP), New Zealand Police and the Computer Security Institute (CSI). This 2006 survey is the second annual survey. It is based on the US CSI/FBI Computer Crime and Security Survey, the longest running continuous survey in the Information security field and commonly known as a leading source of statistics related to computer crime and security. The 2006 survey results are based on the responses of 113 computer security practitioners in New Zealand (NZ) manufacturing, governmental, financial and medical organisations, and tertiary education providers regarding the 2005 calendar year. All monetary figures are in NZ$, roughly equivalent to US$0.7 at time of publication. It is probable that the lowered response rate to the 2006 survey was due to conducting it in parallel with the 2007 survey in one twelve-month period. This was necessary to bring publication dates in line with the US (CSI/FBI) and Australian Computer Crime and Security surveys with work on the 2007 survey report already underway.
