L-riser: Steel Dynamic Riser for Severe Vessel Motions
All Days, 2003Co-Authors: Jon Erik Borgen, Einar Kjelland Fosterud, Truls Jarand LarsenAbstract:Abstract The "L-riser" is a new steel production and export riser concept for floating production vessels that avoids the high cost, integrity problems and size limits of flexibles. It consists of two initially straight, constant wall thickness, steel pipe sections joined to form an "L"; the steeply inclined upper section is terminated at the vessel, the lower section is tangent to the seabed at a point below the upper termination. An elastic anchor line is attached at the 90 degree corner and to an anchor on the seabed. The corner is a double planar stress joint of novel design incorporating a long radius bend (see Figure 1 and 2). The "L-riser" configuration allows for large vessel motions in typical harsh environments. Motion Components parallel with the upper riser section will be transferred almost undamped to the corner, and set up transverse oscillations that are damped out in the lower section. The 90 degree corner gives the upper steel pipe section dynamic flexibility. The anchor line maintains near constant tension in the lower section, minimising fatigue at the touchdown point. In addition, the flexibility of the lower pipe section allows large static platform offsets. This paper present the feasibility study of the "L-riser" designed as a 28- ID export riser (see table 2 for pipe properties) in 850m and 1750m water depth, for semi submersible production unit in the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) area. Installation, Component design, static and dynamic analysis and fatigue life estimates are covered. Estimated fatigue life of all parts of the system exceeds 250 years. Material was X65, weld class D. Installation may require only one vessel. The main analysis tool is Visual Orcaflex, by Orcina Limited, UK, Ref.[4]. The analysis results indicate that the design is not close to any limits, and that the "L-riser" is a feasible, robust and highly competitive riser system over a wide range of applications. Estimated cost for one installed 28-ID riser at 850m water depth is 300MNOK. Cost for 1750m water depth is 450MNOK. Major deepwater offshore development areas like NCS, as West Shetland, Canada, GOM and Brazil experience challenging environmental conditions as discussed in this paper. Other areas like West Africa have other riser challenges like temperature and insulation. Introduction This paper includes the results of the feasibility study of a steel riser system for export risers for floating production semi submersible. The riser system called "L-riser" has been developed by Inocean in Oslo, Norway. It avoids the limiting size problems in combination with choice of floater type, of other riser systems. The "L-riser" allows for large vessel motions in typical harsh environments. In addition, the elasticity of the riser configuration allows for relative large static platform offsets. Ormen Lange and Kristin field design data are the design basis for this study. The work was initiated in June, 2002, for Norsk Hydro and Statoil towards the deep offshore field developments in NCS, Ref.[1].

Safety aspect in Installation industrialized building system (IBS) Component
2009Co-Authors: Maamor Noor YuhanaAbstract:Safety aspect in construction is very importance and it has to apply to any construction project. It can be lead to accidence that could cause injured to workers as well the public and some causes can lead to death. Pre-cast construction also not exclude from having hazard in its construction process during the Installation Component. However, the most construction accidents occur because lack of proper planning, unsafe equipment, not follow the method statement, unsafe site conditions, not using the safety equipment that was provided, and poor attitude towards safety during Installation process. The aim of this project is to study the process of Installation Component pre-cast concrete and to identify the safety aspect and the requirement during the process Installation at site, included to identify the level of safety during Installation process at site. The data was collected through documents study, interview, and industrial visit, constructed and distributed questionnaire in order to identify the safety requirements in pre-cast construction. All of the interview and research questionnaire survey are conducted among contractor that registered as class 7 with Construction Industrial Development Board (CIDB) and class A with Pusat Khidmat Kontraktor (PKK) in Klang Valley. Returned questionnaire were analyses with used average index and frequency analysis method to identify safety aspect using pre-cast construction. The results indicate that the safety aspect implemented by company involved in precast construction process is at a good level at safety aspect during bracing, propping, welding and grouting process and very good level at safety in general aspect and safety aspect during lifting process. This are a few safety aspect and requirement during Installation process such as construction site workers equipped with personal protective equipment (PPE) and etc. In conclusion with existence of this study, it can boost up knowledge and give detailed information about safety aspect in Industrialized Building System using pre-cast concrete and must improve step of awareness until 0% of accident.

Working Paper 07-13 - Walking the green mile in Employment - Employment projections for a green future
2013Co-Authors: Danielle DevogelaerAbstract:In this working paper, the employment effect triggered by a transition towards an all renewable energy system in Belgium by 2050 is scrutinized. The job impact is estimated up until the year 2030. Using a labour intensity methodology, net job gains are to be expected in each renewable trajectory for any given year. A distinction is made between construction, Installation and manufacturing (CIM) and operations, maintenance and fuel processing (O&M) jobs, with the maximum amount of CIM jobs created over the reference scenario exceeding the amount of O&M jobs. This points to the fact that renewable energy sources tend to have a higher construction and Installation Component in employment than fossil fuels. These Installation jobs, along with numerous other job types (e.g. monitoring, planning, certifying), are bound to be and remain domestic. A sensitivity analysis on the effect of applying a decreasing employment multiplier over time is modeled, accompanied by an enumeration of arguments pro and contra using this type of multiplier. All through the paper, a number of reflections are brought to the fore that may nuance the obtained figures and effects. In order for the jobs to materialize, targeted educations, preferably in close collaboration with industry, technical schooling and interest in science are crucial. Enabling policies and measures within a solid, transparent policy framework should accompany the whole process. In this regard, some policy domains and actions are described that could prove useful in tapping the vast job potential.

Research of X Engine Single Gas Path Model Modification based on Influence Coefficient Matrix of Iterative Modification
Gas Turbine Technology, 2014Co-Authors: Ma LAbstract:Because of the difference of manufacture and Installation,Component characteristics exist difference, which makes characteristics of the engine differ, therefore engine model doesn't match factual condition well. Aiming at this condition, influence coefficient matrix was introduced, and engine gas path model was modified, model modified can corresponding to factual condition. Simulated result indicates: model precision modified by influence coefficient matrix of iterative modification is superior to once modification, its precision approximates to 1. 6% maximally. And precision of model modified correlates to the sensitivity of selected Component parameter to objective performance parameter.
