Application of energy storage elements on a PV system in the smart grid context
2015 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Latin America (ISGT LATAM), 2015Co-Authors: Filipe Perez, Julio Freitas Custodio, Vitor Grillo De Souza, Homero Krauss Ribeiro Filho, Edison Massao Motoki, Paulo F. RibeiroAbstract:The use of renewable resources, such as solar energy, in distributed generation can bring instabilities to the system due to fluctuations in power output caused by variations or bad weather. In order to reduce the impacts caused by solar panels (PV's), the application of Intelligent Networks is feasible to control the distributed generation. Inserting storage energy elements in PV's stabilizes the energy produced by the panel, very sensitive to temperature and solar irradiation. In this context, we developed a computational model of 100 kW photovoltaic systems connected to the network with storage elements for the uniform supply of power, which has a load control strategy and battery discharge, standardizing the power delivery network Therefore, it was verified the importance of smart grids in the control of power flow.

linear breakthrough project large scale implementation of smart grid technologies in distribution grids
IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Europe, 2012Co-Authors: Benjamin Dupont, P Vingerhoets, P Tant, K Vanthournout, W Cardinaels, T De Rybel, E Peeters, Ronnie BelmansAbstract:The LINEAR project (Local Intelligent Networks and Energy Active Regions) focuses on the introduction and implementation of innovative smart-grid technologies in the Flanders region, and aims at a breakthrough in the further development and deployment of these solutions. It consists of a research component and a large-scale residential pilot, both focusing on active demand-side management of domestic loads. This paper describes the unique approach, the main objectives and the current status of this project. Selected business cases and target applications are discussed in detail.

EuroGP - Genetic Programming for Service Creation in Intelligent Networks
Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 2000Co-Authors: Peter MartinAbstract:Intelligent Networks are used by telephony systems to offer services to customers. The creation of these services has traditionally been performed by hand, and has required substantial effort, despite the advanced tools employed. An alternative to manual service creation using Genetic Programming is proposed that addresses some of the limitations of the manual process of service creation. The main benefit of using GP is that by focussing on what a service is required to do, as opposed to it’s implementation, it is more likely that the generated programs will be available on time and to budget, when compared to traditional software engineering techniques. The problem of closure is tackled by presenting a new technique for ensuring correct program syntax that maintains genetic diversity.

Service-creation environments for Intelligent Networks
IEEE Communications Magazine, 1992Co-Authors: E.f. HaseltonAbstract:Service-creation environments (SCEs) for Intelligent Networks, the next frontier in telecommunications, are discussed. It is stated that as SCEs become part of network structures, the use of real-time software validation to supplement or eventually supersede regression testing must be implemented. Three elements in the Exploratory Intelligent Network project that may satisfy these requirements are discussed: finite-state tests, call-model standards, and fast real-time processors.

unreduced dynamic complexity towards the unified science of Intelligent communication Networks and software
arXiv: General Physics, 2006Co-Authors: Andrei P KirilyukAbstract:Operation of autonomic communication Networks with complicated user-oriented functions should be described as unreduced many-body interaction process. The latter gives rise to complex-dynamic behaviour including fractally structured hierarchy of chaotically changing realisations. We recall the main results of the universal science of complexity (physics/9806002) based on the unreduced interaction problem solution and its application to various real systems, from nanobiosystems (physics/0412097, physics/0502133) and quantum devices (physics/0211071) to Intelligent Networks (physics/0412058) and emerging consciousness (physics/0409140). We concentrate then on applications to autonomic communication leading to fundamentally substantiated, exact science of Intelligent communication and software. It aims at unification of the whole diversity of complex information system behaviour, similar to the conventional, "Newtonian" science order for sequential, regular models of system dynamics. Basic principles and first applications of the unified science of complex-dynamic communication Networks and software are outlined to demonstrate its advantages and emerging practical perspectives.
