the interactive effects of extroversion Introversion traits and collectivism individualism cultural beliefs on student group learning preferences
Journal of Accounting Education, 1997Co-Authors: Marion R. Hutchinson, Ferdinand A. GulAbstract:This paper examines the interactive effects of extroversion/Introversion personality traits and collectivism/individualism beliefs on students' group learning preferences. The primary motivation for this study is the mixed results obtained with prior studies on the relationship between extroversion/Introversion and student preference for different learning approaches. These divergent results may be explained by the failure of previous studies to account for the confounding effects of students' cultural beliefs. Seventy six final year students from two universities in Hong Kong were asked to complete questionnaires on the extroversion/Introversion 10-item test (MBTI) and the collectivism/individualism 4-item scale. The results confirm the concerns raised in this study that an examination of the effects of extroversion/Introversion on aspects of students' attitudes and performance should also recognise the confounding effects of students' cultural and other beliefs.

is Introversion a risk factor for suicidal behaviour in depression
Psychological Medicine, 1998Co-Authors: Alec RoyAbstract:Background. Personality is an important determinant of suicidal behaviour. However, it has been studied little in relation to suicidal behaviour in depression. Methods. Depressed patients who had attempted suicide ( N =41) were compared with depressed patients who had never attempted suicide ( N =56) and normal controls ( N =56) for their scores on three personality questionnaires. Results. Introversion was the only personality dimension where the post hoc test showed a different pattern between the two groups of depressed patients in their relation to controls. In particular, only depressed patients who had attempted suicide had significantly lower Introversion scores than controls. Conclusion. The personality dimension of Introversion may be a risk factor for suicidal behaviour in depression.

Shy teens and their peers: Shyness in respect to basic personality traits and social relations
Journal of Research in Personality, 2019Co-Authors: Maria Magdalena Kwiatkowska, Radosław RogozaAbstract:Abstract The main purpose of this paper was to examine shyness in teenagers from two perspectives: in terms of its relations with basic personality traits and in terms of its influence on the processes that occur in the social networks of high school students. First, we found that shyness was negatively predicted by extraversion and positively by neuroticism. Second, using exponential random graph models we demonstrated that shyness across network effects was similar to reversed extraversion (Introversion): Both negatively predicted the number of outgoing relations, whereas they did not affect the number of incoming relations. We discuss the issue of locating shyness in the space of personality traits, supporting the relevance of ascribing it to Introversion.

Locus of Control, Introversion-Extroversion and Achievement Motivation of Senior Secondary School Students in Southern Education Zone of Cross River State, Nigeria.
2016Co-Authors: Ue Ajake, Rose Kalu OriekeAbstract:The study examined locus of control (external and internal), Introversion-extroversion and its influence on achievement motivation of senior secondary school students in Southern Education zone of Cross River State- Nigeria. The ex-post facto design was used. The population comprised all the public senior secondary school students in the zone. The stratified random sampling technique was used in this study. A total of six hundred (600) subjects (300 males and 300 females) were selected from twelve schools for the study. Data was generated through a well-structured and validated questionnaire captioned “Students’ Locus of Control, Introversion-Extroversion and Achievement Motivation Scale” (SLCIEAMS). Independent t-test was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the analysis showed that locus of control and Introversion-extroversion significantly influenced achievement motivation of senior secondary school students. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that teachers should treat and handle the students equally, giving room for individual differences. Teachers should also learn to appreciate the students’ peculiar personality characteristics and help them especially as regards introverts and extroverts.

Relationship between Child Abuse and the Trait of Introversion - Extroversion among Senior Secondary Students in Cross River State, Nigeria
Annals of Modern Education, 2009Co-Authors: Ue Ajake, Nn Bisong, A JamaboAbstract:Survey data collected from 2,000 senior secondary class two (SSII) students in Cross River State, Nigeria were analyzed to determine the influence of child abuse and the trait of Introversion-extroversion among senior secondary school students. Four dimensions of child abuse - physical, sexual and emotional abuse as well as child neglect were studied. Contingency chi square (X 2 ) was used in testing the hypothesis for Introversion-extroversion behavior among senior secondary school students at the 0.05 alpha level of significance. The result obtained showed a significant influence of child abuse on Introversion-extroversion characteristics among senior secondary school students in the study area. Students who were abused were more likely to become introverts than those not abused. Key words: Introversion, extroversion, personality traits, non conforming, extroverted individual.
