  • A SDIO-Interface Wi-Fi Packet Capture Scheme Based on Android Kernel Extension
2017 IEEE International Conference on Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) and IEEE International Conference on Embedded and Ubiquitous Computi, 2017
Co-Authors: Yang Xiaochun, Zhu Hongfei, Zhang Xiaosong, Khaled Aourra
    Abstract:

Wi-Fi network packet capturing techniques are used to examine and capture real-time running packets, is a crucial step to analyze and evolve communication protocols. On most mobile phones based on Android system, FullMAC Wi-Fi chips are used in WLAN subsystem, and the secure digital input output (SDIO) interface is used between Wi-Fi chip and host driver. Most Wi-Fi capture tools are not suitable in this scenarios. Hence, in this paper, we propose a SDIO interface Wi-Fi Network packet capture tool based on Android Kernel Extension. Our work focuses on analyzing implementation mechanism of SDIO interface in Android Kernel, and proposing the modification scheme to implement packet capture work. This scheme is useful in most different Wi-Fi networks. We use our tool to perform packet capturing and analyzing experiment in Wi-Fi direct network. Based on our work, we can also modify the Wi-Fi network packet and propose new medium access control layer protocols.

  • skethic secure Kernel Extension against trojan horses with information carrying codes
Australasian Conference on Information Security and Privacy, 2001
Co-Authors: Eunsun Cho, Sunho Hong, Hongjin Yeh, Manpyo Hong, Cheolwon Lee, Hyundong Park, Chunsik Park
    Abstract:

Trojan-horses are hard to detect since they pretend normal programs [14]. This paper proposes 'SKETHIC (Secure Kernel Extension against Trojan Horses with Information-carrying Codes)', an anti-Trojan method based on resource access information attached to codes. This information serves as criteria for users' decision on installation of programs and forms access control policies for the runtime monitoring system. Compared to the previous approaches, SKETHIC introduces a way of reducing the users' decision-making overhead. To show clearly how it keeps a host secure from Trojans, we describe the mechanism in a formal way.
