    Abstract:

    El presente trabajo relaciona la actividad económica peruana y el ambiente, durante el periodo 1970-2010, cuyo objetivo es contribuir a estimar la curva ambiental de Kuznets, CKA, midiendo la relación entre el nivel de producto bruto interno real per cápita, YR, las exportaciones industriales reales, XIR, y la intensidad energética, MAT, con el nivel de emisiones per cápita de dióxido de carbono, CO 2 , como variable dependiente. Las variables son obtenidas de las estadísticas del Banco Central de Reserva del Perú, Banco Mundial, Ministerio de Energía y Minas, MINEM, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistic, y de la Comisión Económica para América Latina, CEPAL. Las estimaciones se agrupan en tres modelos econométricos en la condición de niveles, logaritmos y tasas de crecimiento, utilizando el software E-VIEWS 6.0, según el método de los mínimos cuadrados ordinarios. El modelo tres, concluye que la relación entre producción, crecimiento y medio ambiente, no define la forma de U invertida según la hipótesis de la CKA, puesto que hay otras variables explicativas sobre la contaminación atmosférica: la economía peruana no ha conseguido disminuir las emisiones de CO 2 a pesar de haber aumentado YR. La relación entre producción y daño ambiental es de pendiente positiva y lineal: la disminución de CO 2 , en términos de su beneficio respecto a su sacrificio es muy bajo: son pocos los que puedan disfrutar de este beneficio, la implicancia es deducir cómo identificarlos. El Estado debe promover la inserción hacia los mercados energéticos internacionales y adecuar el marco regulatorio de la inversión privada en energía vía el fortalecimiento de la institucionalidad, y tratamiento ante el cambio climático que limita el crecimiento, causa impactos negativos en la salud y daño en los ecosistemas. De la estimación del modelo 3 en logaritmos, cuyos resultados son estadísticamente significativos, el coeficiente MAT es menor que el coeficiente YR; es decir, que las medidas de política energética deben continuar hacia la sostenibilidad: que la economía peruana considere el crecimiento y el cuidado del medio ambiente en un plan estratégico energético de largo plazo que incorpore el análisis del cambio en la matriz energética, basada en fuentes renovables y sostenibles, en términos de la eficiencia, la productividad y competitividad. El desarrollo sostenible debe incorporar cambios vía una planificación regional y sectorial de la energía a través de las cadenas productivas eficientes que contribuya en la innovación tecnológica. La eficiencia energética intersectorial entre industria y transporte permita que la política ambiental posibilite la reducción de CO 2 . Además, el modelo evidencia que la política ambiental peruana considera más la atención dirigida hacia la producción del mercado interno que a los mercados externos: es relevante una estrategia en el sector exportador industrial contra las emisiones de gases efecto invernadero y cambio climático. Desde 1990, se han diversificado las exportaciones no tradicionales de productos agro industriales de exportación: la economía peruana crece con el nivel de exportaciones industriales que evidencia el cambio tecnológico que permita incrementar la productividad del país, sin descuido de la recuperación y conservación de la calidad ambiental

    The objective of this study was to identify and quantify the hazards present during arboricultural operations. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration Fatality and Catastrophe incident database and other Bureau of Labor Statistic sources were analyzed for arboricultural operation incidents within the 17-year period from 2001 through 2017. There were 865 fatal and 441 nonfatal incidents reviewed from this period. The leading four fatal incidents, from the largest to the smallest number of fatalities, were climber falls, workers struck by a falling tree, workers making indirect contact with an electric current, and workers struck by a falling branch. Climber falls were also the leading incident for severe nonfatal injuries, followed by ground workers struck by a falling branch, workers struck by a chain saw, and falls by aerial device operators. The American National Standards Institute Z133 American National Standard for Arboricultural Operations—Safety Requirements establishes safety requirements and recommendations for arboricultural operations in the United States. It addresses common hazard sources and has guidelines to avoid, eliminate, or reduce them. Safety training programs should emphasize the most common hazard sources for fatal and nonfatal incidents and follow the ANSI Z.

  • Assessing the Influence of Foreign Direct Investment on the Economic Growth of United States

    Researchers have found mixed empirical results on the significance of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on countries around the world. Foreign direct investment has been a major driver in the economic growth of both developed and developing economies. This study examines the influence of FDI on economic growth in a single developed country, the United States. Even though the United States has been the largest attractive nation for foreign direct investment among developed economies, there is need to research on how FDI has contributed to its development. Therefore, this paper uses multiple linear regression model and its estimation using ordinary least squares (OLS) to study the impact of FDI on economic growth in the United States. Analysis of secondary data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), and Bureau of Labor Statistic (BLS) for the year 2000 to 2018 revealed that foreign direct investment has a positive influence on the economic growth of United States. Therefore, the study recommends that the government of United States should continue to revamp investment and fiscal policies to attract new foreign investors through continuous investing in social infrastructures, improving the quality of their institutions and their governance.
