polymesomorphism in a smectic smc phase in a comb shaped liquid crystalline stereoregular cyclolinear methylsiloxane copolymer with the 4 4 bisphenylene fragment at terminal Lactic Acid Derivative in mesogenic group
Mendeleev Communications, 2014Co-Authors: Andrei V Taldrik, M A Shcherbina, Artem V Bakirov, Sergei N Chvalun, Yuliya N Malakhova, N N MakarovaAbstract:Comb-shaped liquid crystalline stereoregular cyclolinear methylsiloxane copolymers containing a Lactic terminal group at the 4,4’-bis- phenylene fragment were synthesized. The polymesomorphism of a smectic SmC* phase is influenced by the tacticity of the main chain, as found by X-ray analysis and DSC.

comb shaped liquid crystalline stereoregular cyclolinear methylsiloxane copolymer containing Lactic Acid Derivative as chiral mesogenic side group
Mendeleev Communications, 2013Co-Authors: Irina M Petrova, M A Shcherbina, Artem V Bakirov, Sergei N Chvalun, N N MakarovaAbstract:Comb-shaped liquid crystalline (LC) stereoregular cyclolinear methylsiloxane copolymers with mesogenic chiral Lactic side group were synthesized. X-ray study showed that tacticity of the main cyclolinear methylsiloxane chain influences intra- and intermolecular ordering in LC state.

first liquid single crystal elastomer containing Lactic Acid Derivative as chiral co monomer synthesis and properties
Polymer, 2011Co-Authors: Alexej Bubnov, Valentina Domenici, Věra Hamplova, Miroslav Kaspar, Bostjan ZalarAbstract:Abstract For the first time new type of liquid single crystal elastomers forming the chiral smectic A * (SmA * ) phase has been prepared using chiral Lactic Acid Derivative as a co-monomer. The synthesis and the basic characterization of the ferroelectric liquid crystalline co-monomer based on differential scanning calorimetry and small/wide-angle X-ray scattering are reported and discussed. The monomer possesses the paraelectric SmA * and the ferroelectric SmC * phases over a broad temperature range. The preparation of new smectic liquid crystalline elastomers together with characterization of their mesomorphic and structural properties is also reported. New elastomers possess the orthogonal paraelectric SmA * phase over 50 K broad temperature range.

Self-assembling properties of Lactic Acid Derivative with several ester linkages in the molecular core
Phase Transitions, 2015Co-Authors: Anamika Pramanik, Věra Hamplova, Miroslav Kaspar, Malay Kumar Das, Banani Das, Alexej BubnovAbstract:The effect of several polar ester linkage groups incorporated in the molecular core of a chiral Lactic Acid Derivative on self-assembling properties has been investigated by polarizing optical microscopy, small angle X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, optical and electro--optical studies. The compound possesses the paraelectric smectic A* (SmA*) and ferroelectric smectic C* (SmC*) phases over a broad temperature range. Mesomorphic behaviour, spontaneous polarization, birefringence, optical transmission, dielectric anisotropy and structural properties of the self-assembled chiral material have been determined. The obtained results are discussed and compared with that of other liquid crystalline materials. Experimentally determined spontaneous polarization and tilt angle values are also used to elucidate the nature of SmC* to SmA* phase transition. The effect of polar ester linkages in the molecular core has also been discussed.
