Viscous Shock Wave and Boundary Layer Solution to an Inflow Problem for Compressible Viscous Gas
Communications in Mathematical Physics, 2003Co-Authors: Feimin Huang, Akitaka MatsumuraAbstract:The inflow problem for a one-dimensional compressible viscous gas on the half line (0,+∞) is investigated. The asymptotic stability on both the viscous shock wave and a superposition of the viscous shock wave and the boundary Layer Solution is established under some smallness conditions. The proofs are given by an elementary energy method.

Large-Time Behaviors of Solutions to an Inflow Problem in the Half Space for a One-Dimensional System¶of Compressible Viscous Gas
Communications in Mathematical Physics, 2001Co-Authors: Akitaka Matsumura, Kenji NishiharaAbstract:The “inflow problem” for a one-dimensional compressible barotropic flow on the half-line R += (0,+∞) is investigated. Not only classical waves but also the new wave, which is called the “boundary Layer Solution”, arise. Large time behaviors of the Solutions to be expected have been classified in terms of the boundary values by [A. Matsumura, Inflow and outflow problems in the half space for a one-dimensional isentropic model system of compressible viscous gas, to appear in Proceedings of IMS Conference on Differential Equations from Mechanics, Hong Kong, 1999]. In this paper we give the rigorous proofs of the stability theorems on both the boundary Layer Solution and a superposition of the boundary Layer Solution and the rarefaction wave.

Uniform dispersion of triplet emitters in multi-Layer Solution-processed organic light-emitting diodes
Synthetic Metals, 2010Co-Authors: Sheng-yang Huang, Hsin-fei Meng, Heh-lung Huang, Teng-chih Chao, Mei-rurng Tseng, Yu-chiang Chao, Sheng-fu HorngAbstract:The influence of the iridium complex solubility on the efficiency of multi-Layer Solution-processed organic light-emitting diode is demonstrated by synthesized orange triplet iridium complexes with the same core. The solubility of the iridium(III) bis(4-phenylthieno[3,2-c]pyridinato-N,C2 ) acetylacetonate is increased and uniform dispersion of iridium complex in polymer host poly(vinylcarbazole) is achieved by tert-butyl and n-hexyl group modification. Blade coating technique is utilized to achieve tri-Layer structures with a polymer hole-transporting Layer poly[(9,9-dioctylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl)-co-(4,4 (N-(4-s-butylphenyl))diphenylamine)], a host–guest emissive Layer, and small-molecule hole-blocking Layer 1,3,5-tris(N-phenylbenzimidazol-2-yl) benzene. The efficiency as high as 20 cd/A is achieved for orange-emitting device. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Existence and instability of spike Layer Solutions to singular perturbation problems
Journal of Functional Analysis, 2002Co-Authors: Peter W. Bates, Junping ShiAbstract:Abstract An abstract framework is given to establish the existence and compute the Morse index of spike Layer Solutions of singularly perturbed semilinear elliptic equations. A nonlinear Lyapunov–Schmidt scheme is used to reduce the problem to one on a normally hyperbolic manifold, and the related linearized problem is also analyzed using this reduction. As an application, we show the existence of a multi-peak spike Layer Solution with peaks on the boundary of the domain, and we also obtain precise estimates of the small eigenvalues of the operator obtained by linearizing at a spike Layer Solution.
