  • effect of Leased Line price on broadband penetration in oecd countries with implications on network neutrality
    Social Science Research Network, 2015
Co-Authors: Shin Cho, Yong Jae Choi
    Abstract:

With this paper, we empirically study the determinants of broadband penetration, with a focus on the effects of the Leased Line price level on broadband penetration. Our results indicate that when content providers pay more for Leased Lines, the demand for broadband service is not affected but the supply of broadband service is increased. Interpreting this empirical result from a network neutrality perspective, we can say that easing the zero-price rule, to the extent that it accompanies a rise in the Leased Line price, positively influences broadband penetration rates and questions the validity of imposing strict network neutrality regulations to promote network investment and broadband diffusion.

  • research on data communication of embedded modem in Leased Line mode
    Computer Engineering, 2012
    Co-Authors: Liu Xiaoping
    Abstract:

In order to achieve low-cost but highly reliable data communications for several kilometers, the communication program is designed as the core of the embedded modem and Micro Control Unit(MCU).MCU sets MT9234 module through AT commands.PC connects with MT9234 module by the level-shifting interface circuit. Two MT9234 modules uses twisted pair to establish the data communication after three stages of the handshake process in Leased Line mode and ultimately builds communications between PC and remote MCU.Hardware simulation results show that, compared with traditional modem, remote data communication in Leased Line mode is farther and faster.

  • ATM Leased Line system using PON technology : Special issue on transmission systems
    Nec Research & Development, 1999
    Co-Authors: Y. Naka, T. Kurano, H. Yasui, K. Uno
    Abstract:

This paper describes ATM-SLT (Asynchronous Transfer Mode-Subscriber Line Terminal) equipment used in ATM Leased Line systems, where ATM-PON (Passive Optical Network) technology is applied to accommodate a greater number of subscriber Lines into the systems for economical services. In ATM-PON systems, the signal is split by an optical splitter into several fibers connecting ONUs (Optical Network Units) at subscriber's homes. A single ATM-PON interface unit can connect 32 ONUs at maximum. In addition, both signals, upward and downward, are multiplexed into a single optical fiber through an interface unit by using WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology. ATM-SLT can house up to 40 subscriber Line interface units and/or central Line interface units in a shelf. To process these high-density signals, we developed a 20 Gbps ATM switch chipset consisting of five units, each being small-sized and of high performance with dimensions of 300 mm(H) x 330 mm(W). In addition, programmable ATM signal processing devices are developed, capable of handling ATM cells to realize high level OAM (Operation and Maintenance) features. These principal technologies are introduced in this paper.

  • bandwidth controllable atm Leased Line services for private networks
Proceedings. The X International Symposium on Subscriber Loops and Services, 1993
    Co-Authors: T Hoshino, Y Kanayama, R Kawamura
    Abstract:

This paper proposes the high-speed ATM Leased Line services that can be constructed on the ATM transport system. Bandwidth controllability of the ATM system is the most significant feature in realizing these services for flexible and cost-effective private networks. Variable-bandwidth services and VPG(Virtual Path Group) service as optional services for ordinary (fixed) Leased Line services are discussed in this paper with reference to service specifications, potential applications and system configurations.
