HarrisAbstract:The general properties of the gamma function are developed, including the recurrence Formula, the reflection Formula, and the Legendre Duplication Formula. Digamma and polygamma functions are also introduced. Stirling’s Formula is given and its accuracy noted. The beta function is defined and its use for evaluating integrals is illustrated. Incomplete gamma functions are defined and their relations to the error function and the exponential integral are discussed. The chapter includes the use of symbolic computing in Maple and Mathematica.
