Legionella pneumophila DNA IN COOLING WATER OF CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONER DETECTED BY POLYMERASE CHAIN REACTION.
Modern Preventive Medicine, 1999Co-Authors: Lu XiaoqingAbstract:Objective:To investigate the contaminated condition of Legionella pneumophila in cooling water of central air conditioner.Mothods:The polymerase chain reaction was developed for detecting the specific DNA fragment of Legionella pneumophila MIP gene in samples from cooling water of central air conditioner.And the microorganism in the samples was also isolated by the vitro cultured method with BCYE culture medium.Results:There are 12 samples(40%) could detected the Legionella pneumophila MIP gene with the PCR as well as only 6 samples(20%) could isolated the pathogen with vitro cultuer in 30 samples.The sensitivity of the two methods showed significantly difference( P 0 05).Conclusion:The Legionella pneumophila pullution in cooling water of central air conditioner is prevalent.

Clinical Application of a Multiplex Real-Time PCR Assay for Simultaneous Detection of Legionella Species, Legionella pneumophila, and Legionella pneumophila Serogroup 1

WinchellAbstract:ABSTRACT We developed a single-tube multiplex real-time PCR assay capable of simultaneously detecting and discriminating Legionella spp., Legionella pneumophila, and Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 in primary specimens. Evaluation of 21 clinical specimens and 115 clinical isolates demonstrated this assay to be a rapid, high-throughput diagnostic test with 100% specificity that may aid during legionellosis outbreaks and epidemiologic investigations.
