    Abstract:

    Mobile augmented reality has fuelled up the recent technological advances of smartphones technology. There are many areas in which mobile augmented reality is being used such as Navigation, Military, Medical, Gaming, Entertainment, Library Management etc. Augmented Reality is an emerging technology of Virtual Reality, involves knowledge about sensors, image recognition, computer vision, human-computer interaction, virtual reality, and many other areas. The key technologies include displaying, registration and tracking, interactive etc. The current world of augmented reality in Library Management are lacking in context-awareness. Hence in this paper, we planned to focus on one of the major issue of automating Library application with the augmented reality software and we propose architecture for accessing the Library books index data fetched from the unique visual code marker attached to each Library book spine. Thus, simplifying the task of searching for a book and determine the proximity to the desired book. This implementation shows mobile augmented reality is a promising tool for Library Management.

    Abstract:

    In this work, we present the design process of the shelf antennas used in an RFID-based Library Management System (LMS). The objective of our design is to maximize tag readability and reduce interference to nearby shelves. The designed shelf antenna must ensure readability of tagged books placed on the particular shelf avoiding identification of books residing at neighboring shelves. At the same time, the antenna design should maintain the induced SAR on Library users below the existing exposure guidelines.

    Abstract:

    An intelligent Library Management System (LMS) based on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) was built as a pilot project for the university Library. A Graphical User Interface (GUI) was carefully designed to support all necessary Library functionalities and user needs. Different types of shelf antennas were designed and fabricated aiming at 100% tag readability in a low-SAR environment for the Library users. Prototype smart cabinets were built and tested using different types of near-field shelf antennas ensuring confined coverage in the vicinity of the shelf, thus avoiding unwanted identification of books residing at nearby shelves. SAR simulations were performed in the presence of human phantom models positioned at a close distance to the cabinet. The shelf antennas were optimized in such a way as to maximize tag readability and minimize electromagnetic pollution in the vicinity of the cabinet.
