an intelligent hybrid type ii arq fec logical link control protocol for gsm mobile communication system
Vehicular Technology Conference, 1996Co-Authors: Maurice Gagnaire, Philippe Godlewski, M. BraneciAbstract:In this paper, we propose a new intelligent hybrid type-II ARQ/FEC logical link control (LLC) protocol for GSM mobile communication system. The aim of this new protocol is to allow a reliable transmission of short data messages with a good utilization ratio of the GSM radio channel. For that purpose, a concatenated coding technique is used so as to reduce the frequency of LLC-PDU retransmissions. State automatas implemented in both end-stations allow the transmitter and the receiver to react intelligently to several error scenarios. An analytical model of our protocol is derived using signal flow-graphs theory. Numerical applications are carried out to evaluate the efficiency of this new protocol.

ISSNIP - LLCPS: A new secure model for Internet of Things services based on the NFC P2P model
2014 IEEE Ninth International Conference on Intelligent Sensors Sensor Networks and Information Processing (ISSNIP), 2014Co-Authors: Pascal UrienAbstract:This paper presents a new secure model for NFC (Near Field Communication) services based on the P2P (Peer to Peer) mode. NFC is a proximity communication technology more and more supported by smartphones or consumer devices that seems a promising technology for the Internet of Things (IoT). It is used in applications such as payment, access control, transport and more generally for the exchange of small pieces of information. NFC P2P sessions are managed by the Logical link control protocol (LLCP). We introduce LLCPS, a TLS security layer working over LLCP. This framework enforces data privacy and integrity; it also provides identity to smart objects, bound to certificates providing strong mutual authentications. Two experimental platforms are described built with NFC devices and smartphones.

CCNC - LLCPS: A new security framework based on TLS for NFC P2P applications in the Internet of Things
2013 IEEE 10th Consumer Communications and Networking Conference (CCNC), 2013Co-Authors: Pascal UrienAbstract:The NFC (Near Field Communication) is a promising technology for the Internet of Things (IoT). It enables proximity communications (a few centimeters) with modest throughputs (hundreds Kbit/s) and low power consumption (a few mW). Although this technology is deployed for payment, access control, transport, or file transfer applications, it does not support a security framework. This demonstration presents Peer to Peer (P2P) transactions protected by a new protocol, LLCPS, i.e. the Logical link control protocol (LLCP) secured by TLS. LLCPS should enable a wide range of trusted services for the IoT.

HPDC - Design of a header processor for the PSi implementation of the logical link control protocol in LANs
Proceedings of 3rd IEEE International Symposium on High Performance Distributed Computing, 1Co-Authors: F A Morales, H. Abu-amaraAbstract:Fiber optic communications offer a combination of high bandwidth, low error probability, and gigabit transmission capacity. To take advantage of the data transmission rates offered by a fiber optic transmission medium, it is essential to have network processing components that can cope with these rates. One approach to removing the protocol processing bottleneck present in network layers is the PSi architecture. PSi consists of header, connection, and output processors. In this paper, we design a RISC architecture for the PSi header processor. The architecture consists of a two stage pipeline microprogrammed processor with a clock frequency of 50 Megahertz and a throughput of one million packets per second. The specific protocol for which this processor was microprogrammed is the Logical link control IEEE 802.2 protocol for LANs. >

Delay analysis and dynamic tuning of an acknowledged mode radio link control protocol
Wireless Personal Communications, 2007Co-Authors: Junfeng Jiang, Zhigang Cao, Zihua GuoAbstract:In this paper, in-sequence delivery delay of an acknowledged mode radio link control (AM-RLC) protocol in wideband code division multiple access (W-CDMA) networks is studied. Two special protocol phenomena, duplicated retransmission, and delayed acknowledgment, are reported. A two-step dependent Markov chain is adopted to model the AM-RLC protocol. The in-sequence delivery is evaluated by means of an analysis through tracking the transmission status of a specific packet data unit (PDU) and its blocking PDUs. Analysis results indicate that in-sequence delivery delay is approximately linear with frame error rate. Analysis results also exhibit that in-sequence delivery delay is highly related to status report interval. Based on this observation, a dynamic AM-RLC scheme is proposed. The proposed AM-RLC scheme dynamically changes status report interval according to channel status. Extensive simulations are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. It is found that the proposed scheme can reduce status report without penalty to in-sequence delivery delay.

ICC - Dynamic Radio link control protocol for UMTS/WCDMA
2006 IEEE International Conference on Communications, 2006Co-Authors: Junfeng Jiang, Zihua Guo, Richard Yao, Zhigang CaoAbstract:To provide a reliable transmission in 3GPP WCDMA systems, in the Radio link control (RLC) sublayer of the WCDMA, an Acknowledgement Mode (AM) is defined where an ACK frame is sent to indicate the data frame receiving status. In order to design a well-performed AM scheme, in this paper, we first investigate the AM protocol behavior and present the delay performance of the standard periodical AM-RLC scheme in the Bernoulli channel. Then, based on the observation from the performance above, we propose a dynamic AM scheme in RLC over a more general time-varying Markov channel. It is demonstrated that a much better delay performance can be achieved compared with the standard AM scheme with periodical acknowledgements.
