VLSI architecture for hierarchical 2D mesh representation for very Low Bit Rate applications
42nd Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems (Cat. No.99CH36356), 1Co-Authors: W. Badawy, Guoqing Zhang, Magdy BayoumiAbstract:Methods for object-based compression and composition of natural and synthetic video content are currently emerging in standards such as MPEG-4 and VRML. This paper shows VLSI architecture for generating Hierarchical 2D Mesh Representation for Very Low Bit Rate Application. The architecture uses a successive triangulation technique and produces the coding of the mesh nodes location as well as the associate motion vectors. The coding technique is based on the quadtree approach. The performance results show that the prototype can be used in the online application and the power consumption shows that it is good enough in the mobile application. Moreover, the number of Bits used for the coding shows that the architecture is suitable for very Low Bit Rate applications.

ICASSP (5) - Dynamic profiling algorithms for Low Bit Rate video applications
2004 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics Speech and Signal Processing, 1Co-Authors: T. Darwish, Magdy BayoumiAbstract:We propose three algorithms for Low Bit-Rate (LBR) video transmission, namely simple dynamic profiling (SimpleDP), minimum dynamic profiling (MinimumDP) and mean dynamic profiling (MeanDP). These techniques can be used in conjunction with other Low Bit Rate techniques. Many of the techniques available for Low Bit Rate video applications either require a lot of hardware resources or take advantage of the powerful computer platform that is used for their software implementation. On the other hand, the proposed algorithms are devised to target hardware implementation for systems with limited hardware resources. When compared to the coarse quantization technique, the new techniques not only achieve better compression ratio (twice that of coarse quantization), but also result in better PSNR results (27 dB for coarse quantization versus 33 to 36 dB for the new techniques).

steganalysis of qim steganography in Low Bit Rate speech signals
IEEE Transactions on Audio Speech and Language Processing, 2017Co-Authors: Yizhen Jia, C Jay C KuoAbstract:Steganalysis of the quantization index modulation (QIM) steganography in a Low-Bit-Rate encoded speech stream is conducted in this research. According to the speech generation theory and the phoneme distribution properties in language, we first point out that the correlation characteristics of split vector quantization (VQ) codewords of linear predictive coding filter coefficients are changed after the QIM steganography. Based on this observation, we construct a model called the Quantization codeword correlation network (QCCN) based on split VQ codeword from adjacent speech frames. Furthermore, the QCCN model is pruned to yield a stronger correlation network. After quantifying the correlation characteristics of vertices in the pruned correlation network, we obtain feature vectors that are sensitive to steganalysis. Finally, we build a high-performance detector using the support vector machine (SVM) classifier. It is shown by experimental results that the proposed QCCN steganalysis method can effectively detect the QIM steganography in encoded speech stream when it is applied to Low-Bit-Rate speech codec such as G.723.1 and G.729.
