investigation of the impacts of ethyl lactate based fenton treatment on soil quality for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons pahs contaminated soils
Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2013Co-Authors: Suyin Gan, Chiew Lin YapAbstract:Abstract This study aims to investigate the impacts of ethyl lactate (EL) based Fenton treatment on soil quality for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)-contaminated soils. Accumulation of oxygenated-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (oxy-PAHs) was observed, but quantitative measurement on the most abundant compound 9,10-anthraquinone (ATQ) showed lower accumulation of the compound than that reported for ethanol (ET) based Fenton treatment. In general, as compared to conventional water (CW) based Fenton treatment, the EL based Fenton treatment exerted either a lower or higher negative impact on soil physicochemical properties depending on the property type and shared the Main Disadvantage of reduced soil pH. For revegetation, EL based Fenton treatment was most appropriately adopted for soil with native pH ≳ 6.2 in order to obtain a final soil pH ≳ 4.9 subject to the soil buffering capacity.

a neural network based localization from distorted image in omnidirectional catadioptric vision system
International Conference on Neural Information Processing, 2002Co-Authors: Tang Zhe, Sng Hong Lian, Sun ZengqiAbstract:Omni-directional catadioptric vision system has been used increasingly in RoboCup(Robot World Cup) medium-sized league for localization. Omni-directional vision system can greatly increase the view range of robot. The Main Disadvantage of this vision system is the image distortion. This paper proposed an efficient method, using an Artificial Neural Network, to localize the robot in the field based on the distorted video image captured by mobile robot.

unified chromosome representation for large scale problems
Industrial and Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems, 1999Co-Authors: Hoda Baraka, Hanan Kamal, Ashraf Abdel H WahabAbstract:Genetic Algorithms have been successfully applied to the function optimization problem. However, the Main Disadvantage of this technique is its large chromosome length and hence long conversion time specially when applied to functions with a large number of parameters. In this paper, a new chromosome representation scheme that reduces the chromosome length is proposed. The scheme is also doMain independent and may be used with any function. Results and a comparison between the conventional chromosome representation and the proposed one are presented.
