  • Health Manpower development in Bayelsa State, Nigeria.
Risk management and healthcare policy, 2012
    Co-Authors: Kalada G Mcfubara, Elizabeth R Edoni, Rose E Ezonbodor-akwagbe
    Abstract:

BACKGROUND Health Manpower is one of the critical factors in the development of a region. This is because health is an index of development. Bayelsa State has a low level of health Manpower. Thus, in this study, we sought to identify factors necessary for effective development of health Manpower. METHODS Three methods were used to gather information, ie, face-to-face interviews, postal surveys, and documentary analysis. Critical incidents were identified, and content and thematic analyses were conducted. RESULTS There is no full complement of a primary health care workforce in any of the health centers in the state. The three health Manpower training institutions have the limitations of inadequate health care educators and other Manpower training facilities, including lack of a teaching hospital. CONCLUSION Accreditation of health Manpower training institutions is a major factor for effective development of health Manpower. Public officers can contribute to the accreditation process by subsuming their personal interest into the state's common interest. Bayelsa is a fast-growing state and needs a critical mass of health care personnel. To develop this workforce requires a conscious effort rich in common interests in the deployment of resources.

  • Why Manpower surveys in pathology? Use of the National Pathology Manpower Database.
Archives of pathology & laboratory medicine, 1992
    Co-Authors: Roger D. Smith
    Abstract:

The National Pathology Manpower Database was developed in 1986 as a representative subset of pathologists engaged in community hospital and private laboratory practice. Manpower surveys in 1987, 1988, and again in 1991 using the National Pathology Manpower Database have consistently shown a greater projected attrition in the number of pathologists from this practice setting than the number of new pathologists entering the specialty. Without periodic surveys of pathologists using a valid sample such as the National Pathology Manpower Database, it is likely that future decisions regarding the supply and need for pathologists would be based on the American Medical Association Master File of Physicians that does not specify practice activity or reflect any Manpower kinetics.

  • Projection of Manpower Requirements for the Sarawak Economy
The International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences, 2019
Co-Authors: Mohd Khairul Hisyam Hassan, Muhammad Asraf Abdullah, Audrey Liwan
    Abstract:

Through the use of the Manpower requirement approach (MRA), this paper attempts to forecast the Manpower requirements for the Sarawak economy in 2025. The MRA is used as the method for estimating the Manpower as it is contended that the Manpower requirement forecast is strongly related to the labour demand. Hence, it can be concluded that the Manpower inventory and analysis provide valuable information pertaining to the present and future workers needed at each level. Although the information may not be completely accurate, it is still valuable and useful for providing a basis for the recruitment, selection, and training process. The projection for the Manpower requirements in the manufacturing sector clearly shows a high demand. The results reveal that agriculture is the main sector that contributes to the job opportunities in the Sarawak economy while the skilled agriculture, forestry, and fishery workers are the main employment categories for the Sarawak economy in 2025.
