JURNAL PANGAN, 2012Co-Authors: Ninik SetyowatiAbstract:Penelitian tentang perbanyakan garut (Maranta arundinacea L) dari bibit cabutan sisa panen dengan aplikasi berbagai pupuk kandang telah dilakukan di kebun percobaan Puslit Biologi LIPI, Cibinong. Percobaan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok yang disusun secara faktorial, dua faktor dengan lima kali ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah waktu pemupukan terdiri dari dua taraf yaitu W1= 1x pupuk di awal penanaman, W2= 2x pupuk (awal dan umur empat bulan setelah tanam). Faktor kedua adalah macam pupuk yang digunakan terdiri dari lima taraf pupuk yaitu P1= Kontrol (tanpa pupuk), P2= pupuk kandang kotoran kambing, P3= PK kotoran ayam, P4= PK kotoran sapi, P5= pupuk kompos. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan bibit cabutan sisa panen untuk perbanyakan garut menghasilkan pertumbuhan yang baik sama seperti menggunaan bibit dari umbi, sehingga dianjurkan penggunaan bibit cabutan sisa panen untuk perbanyakan garut karena dapat menghemat umbi (3000 - 3500 kg) sebagai bibit per hektar. Pertumbuhan bibit paling cepat terlihat pada pemakaian pupuk kandang kotoran kambing (P2) yang diberikan dua kali daripada perlakuan yang lainnya. Hal ini terlihat pada semua parameter yang diamati tertinggi (tinggi bibit 98,6 cm, jumlah daun 100 helai dan jumlah anakan 8), dan pertumbuhan paling rendah terlihat pada kontrol yang dipupuk 1kali (tinggi bibit 39,6 cm, jumlah daun 28,0 helai), akan tetapi jumlah anakannya (3,2) terlihat sedikit lebih tinggi dari pemupukan satu kali dengan kompos (2,8). Apabila dilihat dari pertumbuhan tinggi tanaman tiap bulannya juga terlihat bahwa peningkatan pertumbuhan bibit garut yang dipupuk dengan pupuk kandang kotoran kambing dengan 2kali pemupukan tertinggi. Frequensi pemupukan berpengaruh nyata terhadap pertumbuhan vegetatif tanaman garut, yaitu dua kali pemupukan lebih baik daripada satu kali pemupukan. A study of propagation ofArrowroot (Maranta arundinacea L) from plant residues after harvest with various applications ofdung manure was conducted at the Experimental Garden of Research Center for Biology LIPI, Cibinong. The Factorial in Randomized Completely Block Design was adopted with two factors and five replications. The first factor was the timing offertilizer application with two levels, i.e. W1 = 1x fertilizer in the early ofplanting and W2 =2x fertilizer (the early and 4 months after planting). The second factor was fertilizer with five levels, i.e. P1 =Control (without fertilizer), P2 =dung manure of goat litter, P3 =poultry manure, P4 =cattle manure, P5 =compost fertilizer. The result showed that the plant residues after harvest for propagating arrowroot produced best growth comparable to the propagation with tuber material. So, it was suggested to use plant material with plant residues after harvest This could save about 3000-3500 kg of tubers for planting material per hectare. The best response on growing of arrowroot was the application of 2 times of dung manure from goat litter (P2). This was shown at all parameters observation, i.e. 98.6 cm ofplant height, 100 sheets ofleaf number, and 8of tillers. The lowest data was seen at control with 1time fertilizer i.e. 39.6 cm ofplant height, 28 sheet ofleaf number, but the clump 3.2 was more amount than compost fertilizer (2.8 of tillers). This treatment was also seen to increase the height of plants by adding arrowroot seedling during observation. The frequency of fertilizer was significant effect on growing of plant vegetative, i.e. twice fertilizer application was better than once application.

The research was conducted with Factorial patterns in Randomized Completely Block Design with 2 factors and 5 replications. The first treatment was fertilizing with 2 levels of factors i.e. W1 = 1x fertilizing in the early of planting and W2 = 2x fertilizer (the early and 5 month age of seedling). The second treatment was the kinds of fertilizer with 5 levels of factors i.e. P1 = Control (without fertilizer), P2 = manure of goat dunk, P3 = manure of chicken dung, P4 = manure of cow dung, P5 = compost fertilizer. The result showed that two time application of manure of goat dung (P2) is the best for growing the arrowroot seedling (98.6 cm of plant height, 100 sheet of leaf number, and 8 clumps). The lowest data was seen at control with 1 time fertilizing i.e. 39.6 cm of plant height, 28 sheet of leaf number, but the clump is 3.2 more than the compost fertilizer (2.8 of clumps). This treatment was also seen to increase the plant height adding of arrowroot seedling during observation. The frequency of fertilizer was significantly effect the growth of vegetative parts of plant, i.e. 2x fertilizer better than 1x fertilizer.

Starches (Satwa) obtained from the rhizomes of two plants namely, Curcuma angustifolia Roxb. (Fam. Zingiberaceae) and Maranta arundinacea Linn. (Fam. Marantaceae) are used in folklore practice, as Tugaksheeree, for the treatment of the above-mentioned complaints. Aim: To assess the acute toxicity potential of the C.angustifolia and M. arundinacea along with their assessment for adaptogenic activity, by noting their effect on forced swimming-induced hypothermia and gastric ulceration in rats. Materials and Methods: For acute toxicity study, the effect of test drugs C. angustifolia and M. arundinacea rhizome starch were studied after a single administration of up to three dose levels, with 4400 mg/kg as the maximum dose. The animals were observed for 72 hours periodically and mortality was recorded up to seven days. The adaptogenic and anti-ulcer activities were assessed by determining and comparing the changes in rectal temperature, ponderal changes, ulcer index and histopathological parameters in the test drug group with that of stress control group. Results: Both the drugs did not produce any toxic symptoms or mortality even up to the maximum dose level of 4400 mg/kg. Both the test drugs significantly reversed the stress-induced gastric ulceration in comparison to stress-control rats. Starch from rhizome of C. angustifolia reversed forced swimming-induced hypothermia apparently, but not to a significant extent. However, the reversal of hypothermia found statistically significant in the rhizome starch of the M. arundinacea treated group. Conclusion: M. arundinacea had better anti-stress activity in comparision to C. angustifolia.

Aim: To compare the anti-ulcerogenic activity of the above two drugs in pyloric ligation induced gastric ulcer in albino rats. Materials and Methods: A total of 18 Wistar strain albino rats of both sexes grouped into three groups. Group C served as pyloric ligated control group, Group I received starch of C. angustifolia suspension and Group II received starch of M. arundinacea for seven days. On 8 th day pylorus was ligated. After ligation the animals were deprived of food and water and sacrificed at the end of 14 h. The collected gastric contents were used for biochemical estimation and ulcer index was calculated from excised stomach. Results: Both the test drugs showed statistically significant decrease in the volume, increase in the pH, reduced the free acidity of gastric juice and decreased the peptic activity. The starch of C. angustifolia reduced a total acidity non-significantly while M. arundinacea reduced it significantly. Among the two drugs the M. arundinacea has effectively reduced the peptic activity, which is statistically significant. M. arundinacea shown statistically significant increase of total carbohydrates. Conclusion: Both the test drugs proved anti-ulcer activity and prevents the chance of gastric ulcer. Among these two M. arundinacea is more effective.

The starch obtained from the rhizomes of two plants, is used as Tugaksheeree, Curcuma angustifolia (CA) Roxb. (Family: Zingiberaceae) and Maranta arundinacea (MA) Linn. (Family Marantaceae). In the present study, a comparative physico-analysis of both the drugs has been carried out. The results suggest that the starch from CA and MA has similar organoleptic characters. The percentage of starch content is higher in the rhizome of CA when compared with that of MA and the starch of MA is packed more densely than the starch in CA. The chemical constituents of both the starch and rhizomes are partially similar to each other. Hence, the therapeutic activities may be similar.

A comparative study of efficacy of Tugaksheeree [Curcuma angustifolia Roxb. and Maranta arundinacea Linn.] in management of Amlapitta.

Starch obtained from the rhizomes of two plants viz., Curcuma angustifolia Roxb. (Fam. Zingiberaceae ) and Maranta arundinacea Linn. (Fam. Marantaceae ) are used as Tugaksheeree . In the present clinical study, the efficacy of Tugaksheeree was studied on 67 patients of Amlapitta. A 0 total of 84 patients suffering from Amlapitta were selected from the O.P.D. and I.P.D. sections in the department of Dravyaguna, I.P.G.T. and R.A., Hospital, Jamnagar, and were randomly divided into two groups. Thirty four patients completed the treatment course in Group I, and 33 patients completed the treatment course in Group II. The efficacy of drug Tugaksheeree was studied through internal administration of the starches of C. angustifolia Roxb. (Fam. Zingiberaceae ) in Group I and M. arundinacea Linn. (Fam. Marantaceae ) in Group II with the dose of 4 g TID with water for 30 days. Both the drugs were found highly effective in treating Amlapitta . They significantly relieved the cardinal symptoms viz., Avipaka , Tikta - amlodgara , Daha , Shoola , Chhardi and the associated symptoms viz., Aruchi , Gaurava , Udaradhmana , Antrakujana , Vit bheda , Shiroruja , Angasada , and Trit . Statistically significant increase in body weight was noticed in both the groups. This may be because the drugs corrected the Agni and acted as Brihmana and Dhatupushtikara . Both the drugs did not produce any side effects. Therefore, both these drugs ( C. angustifolia Roxb. and M. arundinacea Linn.) can be used as substitutes for each other.

Pengaruh Jarak Tanam Dan Pupuk N,P,K Terhadap Pertumbuhan Dan Hasil Garut (Maranta arundinacea L.)

The increase of productivity of arrowroot can be reached by using plant spacing and fertilization. This study aims to determine the effect of plant spacing and fertilization, also their interaction on growth and yield of arrowroot (Maranta arundinacea L.). This research was held from March to November 2016 in the experimental land, Faculty of Agriculture, Sebelas Maret University. This research arranged in Completely Randomized Block Design (CRBD) consisted of 2 factors; dosage of N,P,K fertilizer (with 3 levels) and plant spacing (with 2 levels). Each treatment was repeated 4 times. The data obtained analyzed with analysis of variance and followed with Duncan Multiple Range Test at 5% level if any significant influences. The results showed that the interaction between plant spacing of 30x40 cm and urea, Sp36 and KCl 300Kg-1ha significantly increased the number of tillers and diameter of arrowroot respectively. The use of plant spacing 30x40 cm tends to increase growth and better yield. The use of 300 Kg-1ha Urea, SP36 and KCl fertilizer significantly increased plant height, while 150 Kg/ha urea, SP36 and KCl fertilizer significantly increased the number of tuber crops.

2017Co-Authors: Anggun AnggunAbstract:Garut dapat dijadikan bahan pangan alternatif karena memiliki kandungan karbohidrat cukup tinggi. Peningkatan produktivitas garut dapat dilakukan dengan penggunaan jarak tanam dan pemupukan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh jarak tanam dan pemupukan serta interaksi keduanya terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil garut (Maranta arundinacea L.). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan bulan Maret-November 2016 di Kebun Percobaan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sebelas Maret. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok Lengkap (RAKL) terdiri 2 faktor yaitu dosis pupuk N,P,K dengan 3 taraf dan jarak tanam dengan 2 taraf. Tiap perlakuan diulang 4 kali. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan analisis ragam dan apabila terdapat beda nyata dilanjutkan dengan uji Duncan Multiple Range Test taraf 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi penggunaan jarak tanam 30x40 cm dan pupuk urea, Sp36 dan KCl masing-masing 300kg/ha nyata meningkatkan jumlah anakan dan diameter umbi garut. Penggunaan jarak tanam 30x40 cm cenderung meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan hasil lebih baik. Pemberian pupuk urea, Sp36 dan KCl masing-masing 300kg/ha nyata meningkatkan tinggi tanaman sedangkan urea, Sp36 dan KCl masing-masing 150kg/ha nyata meningkatkan jumlah umbi pertanaman
