  • The structure of Marketing Channel relationships
Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, 1994
    Co-Authors: Robert A. Robicheaux, James E. Coleman
    Abstract:

Distribution Channel research has been advanced in recent years by contributions based on the political economy paradigm, transaction cost analysis, and relationship Marketing. Drawing on these bodies of thought, we propose a new conceptualization of the structure of Marketing Channel relationships. Relationship structure is defined in terms of decision-making structure and operational integration. The proposed model of Channel structure antecedents and consequences is consistent with the major research paradigms but extends beyond simple categorical assemblages of constructs to provide an ordered set of relationships based on theory and empirical research. This conceptualization reconciles some apparent contradictions in the literature and provides a clear focus for structure, process, and performance research in Channels.

  • Unexplored antecedents of exiting in a Marketing Channel
    Journal of Retailing, 1999
    Co-Authors: Robert A. Ping
    Abstract:

Abstract Despite its importance to the maintenance of interfirm relationships and thus relationship Marketing, comparatively little is known of exiting in Marketing Channels. This research proposes that exiting has novel antecedents that include loyal behavior, voice, and relationship neglect, in addition to relationship satisfaction and the cost to exit the relationship. The study results support this proposal in a Marketing Channel context, and provide some surprises including hints that it might be possible for wholesalers to identify retailers with relationship exiting potential in time to reduce that potential.

  • does satisfaction moderate the association between alternative attractiveness and exit intention in a Marketing Channel
Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, 1994
    Co-Authors: Robert A. Ping
    Abstract:

This study investigated the predicted moderating effect of satisfaction on the association between the attractiveness of the alternative relationship and exit intention in a Marketing Channel. The study used a variation of the Kenny and Judd structural equation technique proposed by the author. The results suggested that for Channel customers with lower satisfaction, alternative attractiveness was positively associated with exit intention. When satisfaction was higher, however, alternative attractiveness had no association with exit intention. The implications of these results are discussed.
