  • A Heuristic Mixed Model for Viral Marketing Cost Minimization in Social Networks

    Abstract:

    The Influence maximization (IM) aims at estimating a small number of influential users that maximize the viral Marketing profit whereas, the Reverse Influence Maximization (RIM) deals with the minimization of Viral Marketing (VM) Cost in social networks. Here, the VM Cost is measured by the minimum number of nodes that are required to activate seed nodes and the profit is defined by the maximum number of nodes influenced by seed users when they are initially activated. However, most of the existing works focus on the profit maximization without considering the VM Cost. Thus, in this research, we introduce a Viral Marketing Cost (VMC) Minimization problem and propose a Heuristic Mixed (HM) approach under mixed Reverse Independent Cascade (RIC) and Reverse Linear Threshold (RLT) diffusion models. The proposed HM model employs the greedy technique along with a heuristic approach to optimize the VM Cost. Moreover, our model resolves the challenging issues of the RIM problem more efficiently. Finally, we simulate our model using data-sets of two real social networks, and the result shows that our model outperforms the baseline and existing models.

    A study was undertaken to examine the Marketing system value chin analysis of shrimp in selected areas of Khulna district of Bangladesh during the month of May-June 2012. The objectives of the study were to estimate Costs and margins, and to test market integration of shrimp. Primary and secondary data were used for this study. The higher Marketing Cost was incurred by aratdars and the lowest by retailer. On the other hand, retailers earned the highest net Marketing margins. Analysis of market integration shows that Shrimp market in Bangladesh was well integrated. The findings of the study revealed that the Marketing of Shrimp was a profitable business and some recommendations were provided for the improvement of Shrimp Marketing in the country.     Abstract:

    Environmental sustainability has become an important metric for assessing the success of supply chain management. We study several cooperation contracts within a green product supply chain and investigate their environmental performance. Stakeholders’ environmental responsibilities are considered in a two-echelon supply chain in which consumers are environmentally conscious, a manufacturer designs and produces a green product, and a retailer promotes the green product in its marketplace through green Marketing. This problem is analyzed and modeled under three contracts in order of increasing cooperation level: price-only, green-Marketing Cost-sharing, and two-part tariff contracts. The analytical results show that cooperation among partners can help the supply chain achieve environmental improvements. Cooperating contracts are valuable in practice because consumers are now paying more attention to sustainability and have become more environmentally conscious. A counterintuitive but interesting result is that cooperation may not always profitably benefit all partners; manufacturing becomes more profitable when the manufacturer shares the green-Marketing Cost with the retailer, whereas the retailer is worse off under the Cost-sharing contract than under the price-only contract. This result is more significant when consumers’ green awareness increases. The results on social-welfare performance show that the supply chain’s social welfare increases with the increase of the supply chain’s cooperation level.
