  • Production planning model with simultaneous production of spare parts
International Journal of Production Research, 2009
Co-Authors: Piotr Cyplik, Lukasz Hadas, Marek Fertsch
    Abstract:

The paper presents, proposed by the authors, a production planning model with simultaneous production of identical components for the need of own assembly and as spare parts in machine industry plants. The model was based on literature studies and the authors’ own conclusions drawn during the research works carried out in Grundfos Pompy Ltd. The proposed production planning model has been based on the classical stock Management theory and Material requirement planning methods. It results in merging production Management and stock Management in a one coherent Material Flow Management system. The evaluation of the proposed model was made based on its empirical verification in the environment of the machine industry plant mentioned above. The results turned out to be very promising – the value of spare parts stock was reduced by nearly 50%.

  • Stock Management - a component of production planning model with simultaneous production of spare parts
International Symposium on Logistics and Industrial Informatics 2007. LINDI 2007, 2007
    Co-Authors: Piotr Cyplik, Lukasz Hadas
    Abstract:

This paper presents, proposed by the authors, application classical models of stock replenishment in production planning model with simultaneous production of identical components for the need of own assembly and as spare parts in machine industry plants. The goal of the thesis was to elaborate a production planning model which would allow to combine all demand sources within one production schedule and to decrease spare parts stock with simultaneous production of identical components (spare parts, subassemblies) for the need of own assembly and as spare parts. The proposed production planning model has been based on the classical stock Management theory and Material requirement planning methods. It results in merging production Management and stock Management in a one coherent Material Flow Management system. The research was done in {GRUNDFOS} {POMPY} Ltd. Company. {GRUNDFOS} is one of the biggest pump producers in the world. The model has been verified through its implementation and resulted in a decrease of spare parts stock by nearly 50%.

  • from Material Flow analysis to Material Flow Management part i social sciences modeling approaches coupled to mfa
    Journal of Cleaner Production, 2007
    Co-Authors: Claudia R. Binder
    Abstract:

Abstract This paper presents social sciences modeling approaches (SSMA) that have been coupled to Material Flow analyses in order to support Management of Material Flows. The presented literature review revealed that the large share of these approaches stem from economics, as these models have similar data and modeling structure than the Material Flow models. The discussed modeling approaches support a better system understanding and allow for estimating the potential effects of economic policies on Material Flows. However, it has been shown that these approaches lack important aspects of human decision-making and, thus, the designed economic measures might not always lead to the expected improvements of the Material system.

  • From Material Flow analysis to Material Flow Management Part II: the role of structural agent analysis
    Journal of Cleaner Production, 2007
    Co-Authors: Claudia R. Binder
    Abstract:

Abstract This paper presents a heuristic for supporting the transition from Material Flow analysis to Material Flow Management. The heuristic combines Material Flow analysis with a newly developed method, structural agent analysis (SAA). The latter is based on Giddens structuration theory and provides a basis for understanding the social structures restricting or enabling strategies for managing Material Flows. We consider the specific advantages of SAA to be that it does the following: (i) it considers the interaction and dynamics of social structure and human agency and, thus, allows for including the role of structural factors such as culture in the analysis; (ii) it provides a cross-level approach allowing the study of interferences among agent groups; and (iii) it considers the different time scales of change of social structures constraining the implementation of options for improving Material Flows.

  • Impact factors and regulatory mechanisms for Material Flow Management : Integrating stakeholder and scientific perspectives The case of bio-waste delivery
    Resources Conservation and Recycling, 2006
Co-Authors: Daniel J. Lang, Claudia R. Binder, Roland W. Scholz, Konrad Schleiss, Beat Stäubli
    Abstract:

Material Flow Management has become an increasingly important paradigm in waste Management. An essential goal of this paradigm is prioritizing waste reduction over reuse and recycling, and the latter waste Management processes over secure disposal of waste residues. Separate treatment of biodegradable waste fractions (bio-waste) is a promising way to approach this goal. However, compared to Switzerland, many countries only treat a small proportion of their potentially recoverable bio-waste separately. To identify the parameters (impact factors) and mechanisms involved in successful Material Flow Management favoring separate bio-waste treatment, we analyzed the past developments of bio-waste delivery to centralized transformation facilities in Canton Zurich, Switzerland. In so doing we performed (i) an agent oriented Material Flow analysis; (ii) a structured selection of relevant impact factors influencing the Material Flow development; (iii) expert interviews to assess the adequacy of the set of impact factors and their mutual interactions; and (iv) a cross impact analysis to reveal the relevance of the impact factors and their interferences that make up regulatory mechanisms. Our analysis shows that complex interactions of various impact factors lead to the particular Material Flow developments of the Zurich bio-waste supply market. Four important aspects contributing to its success were that: (i) the cantonal agencies created, in cooperation with private stakeholders, a flexible framework encouraging rather than restricting the developments; (ii) a creative and financially powerful innovator made use of this framework; (iii) separate bio-waste transformation was cheaper than incineration; and (iv) the technological and societal boundary conditions were beneficial to the developments.

  • Scanning effectiveness of Material Flow Management in remanufacturing – case study on diesel particulate filter remanufacturing
    Procedia Manufacturing, 2020
    Co-Authors: Monika Kosacka-olejnik, Karolina Werner-lewandowska, Paulina Golinska-dawson
    Abstract:

Abstract Remanufacturing returns used products to an ‘as-new’ state resulting in economic, social, and environmental benefits. Considering the increasing value of the automotive industry, in this research, the emphasis was placed on automotive components remanufacturing. There is a lack of general remanufacturing process structure as this is a case-dependent process. Material Flow Management becomes an essential issue for successful remanufacturing, but there has been identified a research gap in the case of Material Flow Management for effective remanufacturing process. The major objective of the paper was to prepare a quick-scan method for the effectiveness of the Material Flow Management in remanufacturing assessment. This was achieved by investigation on remanufacturing theory and case study. There were identified disturbances in the Material Flow Management in remanufacturing which were further investigated considering prerequisites for effective Materials Management. The method was verified in the diesel particulate filter remanufacturing company in Poland.

  • Multimodal approach for modelling of the Materials Flow in remanufacturing process
    IFAC-PapersOnLine, 2015
    Co-Authors: Paulina Golinska-dawson, Pawel Pawlewski
    Abstract:

Abstract The Material Flow in remanufacturing process is more complex than in the primary manufacturing process. It is due to the fact that the stream of Materials is dispersed after the disassembly operation and then is joint together in dispatching operations before the reassembly. Furthermore the input Flow to the remanufacturing process can be reduced by sorting too worn-out components. It can be also substituted with elements from different local processes and fed with some additional supplies of new components. As a result the analysis and improvement of the Material Flow in remanufacturing process is a very difficult task. The previous papers focus mainly on finding the appropriate mathematical model to present the characteristics of the Materials Flow in remanufacturing process. The goal of the paper is to present how a multimodal approach can be implemented in order to facilitate the analysis and to improve the Material Flow Management between workstation in a remanufacturing process.
