  • La consommation collaborative aux États-Unis
    'OpenEdition', 2015
    Co-Authors: Pauwels Marie-christine
    Abstract:

International audienceThis article studies one of the most striking evolutions of the United States consumer society by focusing on the fast-growing sharing economy, also sometimes called collaborative consumption. Based on the premise that the overconsumption paradigm which is at the root of the current American capitalist system is wasteful and destructive, this new sharing model has been developing quickly online over the past decade. Multiple peer-to-peer networks and lending platforms enable users to exchange, swap, barter or share goods and services over the Internet, thus redefining the notion of ownership, Material Possession, and what Thornstein Veblen referred to as conspicuous consumption

    Abstract:

This article studies one of the most striking evolutions of the United States consumer society by focusing on the fast-growing sharing economy, also sometimes called collaborative consumption. • The Effect Of Child Sexual Exploitation Material Offender Age, Motivation For Use, And Treatment Interest On Public Perceptions Of Offense And Treatment
    UND Scholarly Commons, 2021
    Co-Authors: Kliethermes, Beth Catherine
    Abstract:

The purpose of the present study was to better understand factors that may influence public perceptions related to child sexual exploitation Material offenders. Specifically, the current study aimed to examine the impact of offender age, motivation for use, and treatment seeking on public perceptions of the offense of child sexual exploitation Material Possession, as well as treatment implications. Furthermore, public perceptions regarding mandatory reporting of viewing and possessing child sexual exploitation Material were explored. The study utilized a vignette in the style of a criminal case describing a situation in which a man is charged with Possession of child sexual exploitation Material. The vignettes were identical, apart from manipulations of offender age, motivation for use, and treatment seeking desire prior to arrest. Participants’ perceptions of the situation were measured using a series of questions in relation to the vignette. Results suggest that extralegal factors, such as offender age, partially influence observers’ perceptions and decisions in cases of CSEM even though the law does not specify or discriminate based on these extra-legal factors. Participants were more likely to agree that the offender should face prison time when the offender was 65 years old compared to the offender that was 15 years old. Participants did not appear to have a preference for when the offender participated in treatment as there was minimal support for treatment while awaiting trial, during incarceration, and upon release in the community. Implications are discussed

  • exploring a human centred design of Possessions
    DS 85-1: Proceedings of NordDesign 2016 Volume 1 Trondheim Norway 10th - 12th August 2016, 2016
Co-Authors: Weston Baxter, Xi Yang, Marco Aurisicchio, Peter R N Childs
    Abstract:

Understanding the idea of Possession is essential for creating successful products and services, particularly in digital and access contexts. This paper examines current shortcomings in conceptualising ownership and Possessions before presenting a framework for the process of developing user Possession. The framework is grounded in psychological ownership theory and informed by interviews with thirteen participants. The theory considers ownership as a mental state in which users feel the object is theirs. The interviews explored this mental state under three contexts: traditional Material Possession, digital Possession, and access-based Possession. This work helps inform the meaning of Possessions, and can aid designers and policy makers in how to approach the notion of designing Possessions from a human-centered viewpoint.
