Improving decision making about clinical trial participation – a randomised Controlled trial of a decision aid for women considering participation in the IBIS-II breast cancer prevention trial

This study investigated whether decision aids (DAs) can reduce decisional difficulties among women considering participation in the International Breast Cancer Intervention Study-II (IBIS-II) trial. Methods: The IBIS-II trial investigated breast cancer prevention with anastrazole in two cohorts: women with increased risk (Prevention), and women treated for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Australia, New Zealand and United Kingdom participants were randomised to receive a DA (DA group) or standard trial consent Materials (Control group). Questionnaires were completed after deciding about participation in IBIS-II (post decision) and 3 months later (follow-up). Results: Data from 112 Prevention and 34 DCIS participants were analysed post decision (73 DA; 73 Control); 95 Prevention and 24 DCIS participants were analysed at follow-up (58 DA; 61 Control). There was no effect on the primary outcome of decisional conflict. The DCIS–DA group had higher knowledge post decision, and the Prevention-DA group had lower decisional regret at follow-up. Conclusions: This was the first study to evaluate a DA in the clinical trial setting. The results suggest DAs can potentially increase knowledge and reduce decisional regret about clinical trial participation.

Development of composite dielectrics with high specific capacitance and stable temperature characteristics

The ceramic dielectrics were made by either two or three constituents having a composition of (Ba_0.96Ca_0.04)(Ti_1.0− x Zr_ x Mn_0.01)O_3 (BCTZ), where x ranges from 0 to 0.22, and sintered with Ni inner electrodes at 1300°C for 4 h in a reducing atmosphere. Both alternative stacking, i.e., layer-by-layer of different compositions, and bulk stacking configurations were prepared by screen-printing, resulting in a composite dielectric of different characteristics. It is obtained that the Curie temperature ( T _c) of the BCTZ ceramics decreases with an increase of Zr in the dielectrics, i.e., −8°C per mole of Zr. In addition, the stacking configuration, the proportion and the number of constituents in the composite Materials Control the dielectric characteristics of the multilayer ceramic capacitors. On the basis of the principles outlined, a multilayer ceramic dielectric having k-value in excess of 8000 with the X7R specification (−55 ∼ +125°C, ±15%), which consists of two BCTZ ceramics with Curie temperatures of −20 and 100°C, was successfully developed.

nanometer interface and Materials Control for multilayer euv optical applications

When properly engineered, these enable the synthesis of reflective optics for the Extreme UV wavelength range. Design, deposition, and analysis of these structures have been driven by the demanding application of Extreme UV photolithography. This review addresses the selection of the wavelength in relation to the optical constants of Materials, the layer growth mechanisms and ways to reduce layer roughness and interlayer formation. Special attention is given to the development of thin diffusion barrier layers between the Materials in the multilayers to enhance the optical contrast and to reduce the interdiffusion. Practical issues like reduction of multilayer induced stress and enlargement of the reflectance bandwidth are also discussed, as well as the development of capping layers to Control surface physics processes occurring under EUV irradiation. A description of the multilayer deposition techniques is given and the deposition of multilayers on large, heavily curved optics for real lithography systems is discussed.
