    Abstract:

    We provide precise high-level models for eight fundamental service interaction patterns, together with schemes for their composition into complex service-based business process interconnections and interaction flows, supporting software-engineered business process management in multi-party collaborative environments. The Mathematical Nature of our models provides a basis for a rigorous execution-platform-independent analysis, in particular for benchmarking web services functionality. The models can also serve as accurate standard specifications, subject to further design leading by stepwise refinement to implementations.

  • On the Mathematical Nature of Guseinov’s rearranged one-range addition theorems for Slater-type functions

    Abstract:

    Starting from one-range addition theorems for Slater-type functions, which are expansion in terms of complete and orthonormal functions based on the generalized Laguerre polynomials, Guseinov constructed addition theorems that are expansions in terms of Slater-type functions with a common scaling parameter and integral principal quantum numbers. This was accomplished by expressing the complete and orthonormal Laguerre-type functions as finite linear combinations of Slater-type functions and by rearranging the order of the nested summations. Essentially, this corresponds to the transformation of a Laguerre expansion, which in general only converges in the mean, to a power series, which converges pointwise. Such a transformation is not necessarily legitimate, and this contribution discusses in detail the difference between truncated expansions and the infinite series that result in the absence of truncation.

  • Cloaking bending waves propagating in thin elastic plates

    Abstract:

    We introduce a cylindrical cloak to control the bending waves propagating in thin plates. This is achieved through radially dependent isotropic mass density and radially dependent and orthotropic flexural rigidity deduced from a coordinate transformation for the biharmonic propagation equation in the spirit of the paper of Pendry et al. [Science 312, 1780 (2006)]. We analyze the response of the cloak surrounding a clamped obstacle in the presence of a cylindrical excitation. We note that whereas the studied bending waves are of different physical and Mathematical Nature, they are cloaked in many ways as their electromagnetic and acoustic counterparts; e.g., when the source lies inside the coating, it seems to radiate from a shifted location (mirage effect).
