Using three-dimension model to guide the operation on Maxilla Osteotomy for patients with asymmetry deformities
Chinese Journal of Practical Stomatology, 2009Co-Authors: Lu LAbstract:Objective To evaluate the significance of Maxilla Osteotomy during operation by designing and operating on patients with asymmetry deformities by using rapid prototyping technology. Methods Eighteen patients with asymmetry deformities were selected from Department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery,School of Stomatology,China Medical University,between January 2007 and January 2009. For all the patients,the deformity was very obvious and the biteplane was inclined. By measuring the model which was made preoperatively and operating on it,the data was obtained and used to guide the operation. Finally evaluate the operative effect 6 months after operation. Results All the patients obtained satisfactory results and facial deformities were corrected successfully without serious complications.The biteplane was horizontal. Conclusion It is significant that we use the data obtained from operating on model to identify the position and quantity of Maxilla Osteotomy during operation.

Correction of the Bony Rings During the Aesthetic Rhinoplasty: Apologia of the Transpalpebral Osteotomy
Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 1998Co-Authors: Roger E. AmarAbstract:It is observed that in many cases of rhinoplasty, the final aesthetic result on the face of patients was not satisfactory. The reason is the persistence of ``rings'' making a shadow beside the root of the nose. These ``rings'' seem to be palpebral but are actually made by the frontal process of the Maxilla. Osteotomy in rhinoplasties classically involve the nasal bones. However, the Osteotomy in our cases is made on the frontal process of the Maxilla. This surgical refinement is detailed with regard to a minute palpebral incision, precisely placing the lateral Osteotomy on each frontal process of the Maxilla, in-fracture and rasping equally. While the Osteotomy procedure is well documented in rhinoplasties, the improvement of the patients' final appearance at the root of the nose after rhinoplasty is less clearly established. This report will detail an innovation based on the author's 15-year surgical experience with primary and secondary rhinoplasty. The improved result is remarkable on the final appearance of the nose. Close-up photography demonstrates the anatomy as well as the technique.

Use of distraction osteogenesis for the correction of deviated nasal septum and preMaxilla in a horse

Diaz-bertranaAbstract:A 13-month-old female Andalusian was evaluated because of a congenital left deviation of the Maxilla and nasal septum, which had resulted in a gross malocclusion of the Maxillary incisor teeth. Surgical correction of a deviated nasal septum and preMaxilla in a horse was first reported in 1978 and involved a pre-Maxilla Osteotomy and use of an autogenous rib graft, with a nasal septum Osteotomy performed in a second surgery; to the authors' knowledge, no alternative surgical treatments have since been described. In this horse, a new surgical treatment by distraction osteogenesis without nasal septum Osteotomy was attempted. After the procedure, the preMaxilla and nasal septum deviations were corrected; however, an overjet lesion (rostral projection of Maxillary arcade over the mandibular arcade) was evident, for which the owners declined treatment. Compared with previously recommended procedures, distraction osteogenesis appears to be a less invasive treatment for congenital facial deformities and may be considered an option in the treatment of congenital deviation of the nasal septum and preMaxilla (wry nose), head scoliosis, brachygnathism, and prognathism in horses.
