MarcusAbstract:The American Academy of Pediatrics’ recent technical report entitled “Mercury in the Environment: Implications for Pediatricians” was widely reported on by the news media. After the media reports, the New Jersey Poison Information and Education System experienced a notable increase in the volume of calls on this topic. We surveyed local, county, and state health officers who would likely be contacted by citizens with the question: “How should a fever Mercury Thermometer be disposed of?” Our initial contacts with health officers corroborated our caller’s account: a lack of uniformity of response. This led us to question if there was any consensus in advice being offered to the public at large.

Comparison of the accuracy of body temperature measurements with temporal artery Thermometer and axillary Mercury Thermometer in term newborns

Unfortunately it is relatively uncomfortable to the patient. Axillary Mercury Thermometer (AT) is a relatively safe method, but time consuming and its accuracy has been questioned. Temporal artery Thermometer (TAT) is relatively a new method that can measure body temperature faster, and well tolerated. Objective To compare the accuracy of temperature measurement between TAT and AT in neonates. Methods Cross-sectional analytic study was conducted at Neonatology Division at Sanglah Hospital, Denpasar. Every healthy term newborn who met the criteria were measured their body temperature by using three kinds of Thermometer consecutively. The limits of agreement, correlation and linear regression analysis were done to find TAT and AT’s agreement and correlation to RT. Use of the infrared skin Thermometer is a comfortable and reliable way of measurement of body temperature in newborns.

Journal of Nursing Administration, 2011Co-Authors: Feng YanAbstract:Objective To investigate the cognition of Mercury Thermometer damage and treatment status among clinical nurses,and provide reference for the safety use of Mercury Thermometers and treatments of other related events of Mercury leakage.Methods A total of 200 clinical nurses were investigated with a self-designed questionnaire about the cognition of Mercury Thermometer damage and treatment status.Results Nurses were lack of the cognition of knowledge related to occupational protection,and handled with inappropriate methods.Conclusion It is necessary for hospitals to strengthen related training among nurses,develop rules and procedures,and provide facilities and supplies for them.
